Is there anyone doing biomechanics with MotionBuilder?

#1

Hi all,

I have a mocap rig and I’ve been using Motionbuilder to view the models I’ve captured.

I am doing some sport science work and I would like to be able to get quantitative data from the models! I’d like to get joint angle, rotations and accelerations…basic kinematic information.

My question is, does anyone have a lead on any type of plugin, application, product, etc, that can glean this sort of biomechanical data from Motionbuilder??

I know this might be an odd question…but any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,

digitizer

What kind of data are you looking to extract from MB? Im curious. I dont think it has what you are looking for, however you could perhaps use python scripting to write code for what you are looking to achieve with the software.

I am looking for information such as compontents of joint angles, velocity and acceleration of joint angles…

displacements, velocity, and angular acceleration of body segments (such as shoulders, hips, feet)…

It really isn’t too far fetched, from a math perspective…the big problem is getting MB to spit out the data!

I’ve never used Python and my C++ skills are…well…I took a few classes, but…

Someone elsewhere mentioned using the built-in constraints feature that MB employs. I think it might be possible to get some numerical data, with enough hacking and slashing thru it…

The bottom line appear that there is no easy way! I’m dreaming of a mythical plug-in…
