Is the CGS area dead?

and screen capture
Thanks for clarifying about your monday group Roberto. Once I read the rules it sounds really cool. Unfortunately I don’t have work that can be shown on that regular of a basis but I may pop by once and a while to check it out.

#143

Looks cool to me, I’d say just go ahead and create the thread - though I don’t think it needs to be called “Monday Night” etc. since it’s a round the clock thing. Whatever name works is fine with me though, it’ll be nice to see what folks are doing.

Edit: Haha, Velk has the perfect name for the thread, the “Non-Bonanza Thread”

#144

In Louisiana we have a term for something like this, Lagniappe. (Pronounced Lan’ yap) Its an old mercantile word that means ‘a little extra’. A person buys 10 lbs. of flour, the shop owner throws in a cup more or maybe a treat for the kids, “A little bit o Lagniappe”, just to say thanks for being a good customer.

So, this thread is a little extra at the end of a busy day. A place to relax, you know the owner and he appriciates your business.

So call it ‘CGS Lagniappe’. Thats my home run swing, I got nothing else.

#145

That’s a scary thought! :surprised

#146

I think it’s safe to say let’s just get started this monday and see where it goes. I guess there will be times when the thread status is more bonanzian, and at other times it will perhaps change more towards the comment side. But having a fixed day (or 2 due to timezones) for updates is a rule we need I think. If you miss a day or 2, doesn’t matter, there will be another one in a week. We do allow commenting if you don’t have any updates yourself ?

The mix of fun/comments I think will be it’s strongest point. It could start serious, and turn weird, but when the new updates appear it will always come back towards serious again. Only to turn weird once more. The circle continues.

That’s why The Circle seems like a cool thread name.

And for me personally it’s a fun way to get back in the CG saddle. I’ve already got some ideas to work on.

#147

I actually agree with Rebeccak on this one. I don’t think we need too much seperate threads, and too many formalities. I like it to be more easy acces, drop in a note at the end of your hard working day. If you want rules and formalities why don’t attend a CG Challenge. I like the idea and the result of the old B-thread, the good times it has given people and the great memories.
I think the monday night thing is more a separated thread thing, for those interrested (like me)

and Whyatt… how do I change a topic name? You aren’t making fun of me are you? :stuck_out_tongue: I tried changing my first post, and I looked for a ‘edit this threads name’ tool thingy… but it was not there…

Roberto… how much time do you actually spend on CGTalk? I don’t mean it offensive… i’m interrested. It seems you invest a massive amount of your free time into this society! You are on top of a lot of things. I read a lot of your posts all around this place.

#148

i totally agree with thx1138.lets start and see where the thread takes us. i liked the concept for the circle as a name for the thread so my mysterious nature forced me to expand and brainstorm on the idea. so i thought CGSC? CGS circle? njaaa too generic but wait the symmetry in the acronym C GS C? something for the GS part? so i looked on for some abbreviation about it and saw Geek Speak as one. thought it looked cool so how about

Geek Speak Circle

just a thought and yes yes i know i am a geek :scream:

Names are fun, aren’t they?

[li]The Weekly Review[/li][li]Monday Art Group[/li][li]Cave of Wonders[/li][li]Backhanded Comments Are Not Critiques.[/li][li]Look What They Did to My Work, Ma[/li][li]Frippery and Faffing About[/li][li]Pencils and Pixels[/li][li]Review, Relax, Reblah[/li][li]Penguins Stole My 4B Derwent[/li][li]Register of Lost Orphans[/li][li]Procrastination Diet[/li][li]Complacency Assassins[/li][li]Teflon For the Stains of Life[/li][/ul]And so forth.

But yes, an overall weekly “How we all doing work-wise?” thread would be practical and somewhat beneficial, if not slightly perfunctory.

#150

Hows about, The Thread.

#151

Oh yes she did  She’s been making the streets (un)safe for about two months now.

As for the thread name, I like Frippery and Faffing about just because Faffing about is such an awesome expression. Failing that, I like Wyatts suggestion. Of course, The Thread works too, it sounds a bit ominous

When it comes to posting work, I can’t post anything that I’m working on here unfortunately  I wish I could… And I haven’t done any personal work in ages, I get distracted by other things during lunch and when I get home (TF2, Audiosurf and Crysis at work, PS2 and Ailsa at home :D)

#152

Congratulations Linda girl for the 100,000th Portfolio Poll! :applause: You are still my favorite artist on CGTalk and the print I bought of ‘MS: Spoiled’ is still hanging in my office.

Okay, thats enough gushing.

#153

It’s hard not to gush, but frankly, she deserves it. Well done, Linda!
…someone should tell her that the Not-The-Thread is back…

How my day went:

Thank God it’s Friday, that’s all I can say…

Penguins Stole My 4B Derwent

[/b]Roberto, this one’s got my vote, haha.

Seriously, cool idea though, hopefully this can get a few more people active on the members forum, kind of a dead zone in here usually.
Oh, and paperclip, I hear ya. This week’s been a killer…

#155

Hmm, I always thought it was an option we had but now that I check I don’t know how to do it either. Maybe its something a Mod has to do.
Edit: This may work. Edit your first post and change the title, maybe.

And just to clarify everyone, I was talking about renaming this thread. Roberto is talking about something totally different.

#156

Chaos has arrived! The ‘Not the Thread’ Thread is starting to achieve its purpose.

Let’s all show what we’re working on/have done/will do soon:

For my part: 2 paintings I want to finish over the spring break:

and

but before then:

and

Lá Fheile Pádraig!

How about you?

#157

Well art related I am doing this HMC: The Louve.
There is a nice little heated discussion about poly modeling dying out and sculpting being the way. Personally I find myself torn. I hate poly modeling organics, I find it tedious and boring but I’m having trouble getting good results starting in ZBrush.

Which leads to the next thing, going through a couple of instructional DVDs on ZBrush. Plus Riven Pheonix’s Structure of Man series. Its good but its 45 hours. It took forever just to get through the first disc.

Non art related: Trying to finish setting up one of my clients backup strategy in Backup Exec 12 (new verison). Getting the Exchange server backed up is always the fun part. Plus we are about to move on rolling out a couple hundred PCs for remote offices around the state. Other than that business as usual, swinging an ax, mowing grass, you know.

#158

Currently working on:
An economic branding package for a county in Ohio (just started so I can’t show anything for awhile), but it will include video, website, branding and ident stuff.
Application Icon and program icons for a new Mac app that will be launched in a month or so (can’t show anything there yet).
Other super-secret goodies

Maybe I’ll post some pictures of the studio in the mean time

#159

Errr…not for all …i have to animate 5 shots for tv spot with a Dragon (which i rigged and skinned in one day…aaaaaa…) until Sunday night …eerrr…yikes …etc …etc…weeeee!

P.S ; Neat cat …i had one like this for 14 years.

#160

EEYou poor thing, dimi! Here, have a hug. Where’s a hug emoticon when you need one?? Didn’t Peter make one?

Anyway, I can’t believe you rigged and skinned it all in one day…you speed demon, you.
To cheer you up a bit, check this out clicky

Some of them are kind of crazy, others I can barely notice.
Wyatt, your thread looks interesting, I’m going to have to keep an eye on that one. Great choice of sculpture. It reminds me of one in the National Gallery in Dublin-- let me see if I can find it.
…hmm…no…I must wander over there someday and find out who did it.
