Is the CGS area dead?

#121

Nooooo, it has to be something over the top , like ‘The Glorious and Magnificent Revival of the BONANZA, Enlarged Beyond Truth and Reasonableness for the Edification of All.’

…back I go to studying shigella dysenteriae…and trust me, you don’t want pics of that.

PEEETER…or should I say ANCIENT FORK BOY…how are things?? Shellshock? I’m afraid to say I haven’t heard of that, my years in the hermitage have changed me. :o Tell me all about it!

#122

I agree—over the top.

We need a memorial day to remember the old thread and, like the 5th of November, a clever rhyme.

#123

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??? :scream:

Oh, and by the way, let’s NOT refer to anything as bonanza threads. It got shut down last time because of that.

EDIT: Oh… hi! Long time no see.

#124

Hey hey erilaz!

#125

So there is a censorship going on at this forum… Don’t fear the ‘political’ machine!

I like over the top too… but again, i’m not good at it. Some more suggestions all?

#126

No, just things tend to run towards “Against policy” sometimes in threads like these.

#127

There’s also the fact that we were posting images off of google and whatnot (lots of lots of them…) which wasn’t very good in the end

#128

But still… I still do see a valid reason to close a ‘popular’ thread which does not offend anybody. It’s even in an area where people paid for their membership. Even more important, in the long run it created some ‘friendships’ and some good memories.

The only reason for archiving it would be that it slowed down the database/site… but i’ll doubt that this would slow it down.

#129

I’m doing environment art so if I ever get to show images from it, you’ll see a jungle among other things

She’s good, studying hard and making the roads unsafe

Nope, not yet

Det är bra, jobbar på som vanligt. Du då?

I thought you knew!

#130

That and by the end it was nothing more than a chat room. Rebecca must’ve hit 1000 posts in a week. Not that we don’t like hearing from Rebecca of course.

To my own defense none of my pictures came from Google, just my nifty twisted wonderland. Speaking of which, its almost planting season again, Mwahahaha!

#131

A rhyme eh.

‘It’s a new day
You’ve got things to say
Post it here
So we all can play.’

#132

it was fun but i think people outgrew the thread somehow. doing other things, going to other threads instead it just faded away. but it was a great thread to just talk about everything and anything plus ask for opinions on projects and so on. we need to set up rules on the new thread that can grow as well with the thread not constrain it so it stays intresting and helpful.

thats my opinion anyway .

#133

The awesome thing about the b-word thread was that I felt like I really got to know a bunch of people which isn’t something that I get on most threads about latest work only. Thats actually the part that I miss most, Wyatt’s weird plants, Linda’s contorted limbs and snowy pictures, becca’s wacky stories, clippy’s paintings, studio pictures and all the dimi photoshop goodness… Maybe if we keep linking to funny Google images out of the picture we could build up that sense of community again.

#134

Ok guys, I do promise that the new monday night threads will be fun, and open.
The first thread for the Circle will start on Monday night

The only thing I as for in return is to please post updates, on what yo uare currently working on.

-R

#135

Yeah! More of the old gang!

I agree more rules.
Rule nr 1: no more posting of pics that contain half nekid women lying on a table with sushi on their belly whiles other womens eat the sushi without using their hands.

On a serious note, I agree we need some rules, but not too strict.
I vote for Martin to be the Uber MOD

Peter don’t tell me Ailsa got a drivers licence :scream::scream:

#136

I miss the gang too  but don’t think there need to be a million separate threads. I hate being subscribed to a zillion threads and I doubt there will be much coherence with multiple threads. Just one is fine and then everyone can just subscribe to one thread, ensuring that people know when new stuff has gone up. And I don’t think it should have all the formality of a challenge, the nice thing about a social thread was that it was pretty informal. I think the only rule need be that you just post your work and not stuff from Google.

#137

Ok here is a repost of the rules that I had in mind:

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=5002923&postcount=91

The idea is more to establish a review circle.
the core rules ares simple…
[ul]
[li]Update us about non projects not covered by an NDA that you are working on on Monday Night on the NEW thread that ill post… Or show us stuff you have finished.[/li][li]People can comment on the thread during the rest of the week any way you want.[/li][/ul]and here is a cool sample post of the stuff I would love to see every Monday
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=5006924&postcount=104

#138

I agree with becca. I have too many streams of information as it is to have a new thread every monday, or even every-other week for that matter. A gigantic one would be way easier to keep track of and participate in.

#139

The problem with multiple threads is that it makes it harder for new people
to join.

Besides the core idea behind this, is to motivate people to FINISH projects and to have people comment on them.
New threads, posted always on Monday Night, allow to trackwith ease the progress people have done on a project.

For example:

Show me how Xproject looked ONE YEAR ago
Well just go to thread:

THE CIRCLE WEEK 1- March 17- 23 2007
and it will be there , among the work of the OTHER members.

This would be great for people doing indie projects that require consistency and dedication and they could use the group to keep them accountable to their own datelines.

I have no problem with a new bonanza thread, but this is not it. And I have no problem with a separate Bonanza thread , hell I rather liked it.

#140

Huh? Roberto your post isn’t making sense to me, what are you trying to say? Honestly, there are only a few people here in the CGS area with any interest in this at all. It’s just easier to keep one thread going, it gains momentum, unlike multiple threads which no one is aware of. I’m also not really interested in an overly managed / formal project, I just want to check in on one thread to see what people are up to, not feel like I’m trying to participate in a challenge and have to keep up with several threads at once. Frankly, I’ll lose interest if I have to keep up with more than just one thread.

Edit - nevermind, I see you changed it to a single thread, thanks
