I’m finally getting around to loading some stuff on my portfolio section here. And we just got a new tripod for our camera
Happy days.
Is the CGS area dead?
Tobias, any vids of that greenscreen treatment?
Guys, what’s up with the other thread? All I’m getting is
Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Unable to save result set in /includes/db_mysql.php on line 226

:argh:
I added my Spring 2008 Showreel to my portfolio page which includes a quick wipe of that green screen shot. Somewhere around here I actually have a little making of piece but I’m not sure where it is at the moment.
I’m sorry for my absence. I’ve been reading, but didn’t had the time to respond. Meanwhile I also have been struggling with the concept and changed it a lot, but the basis is now there.
The idea for now; There is boy walking into a waiting room, ans he is a real nerd. He sees an open spot just next to a stunning girl. He really dreams of making a move, and talk to the girl, but the lack of self-confidence stops him. To kill time he gets his notebook and connects to MYLIFE (a Second Life clone
). MYLIFE lets the guy live the life he dreams of. His character is certainly no nerd, instead he is a muscled hansom boy. He clearly escapes reality to be someone he can’t be in real life, to do things he can’t do in the real world. That’s what most games are about.
The twist is that by logging in he controls no game, but his real life. He can add things from his inventory to make him look better. Reallife and cyberspace gets mixed up
In the end he approaches the girl, or not, and something will happen. It will all finish when he shuts down his laptop, he might walk away and break a leg or something.
I’m still working on the ‘story’ to make it better. So if anyone has some input I would greatly appriciate it.
There are some rules i’ve to look after: 1. It has to be about waiting people in a room, and showing how they interact with eachother. 2. It has to be an storytelling-concept. 3. And it has to be presented in an interactive way.
Wow, how much time do you have to work on it? I like the concept but do you think you’ll have enough time?
Well, I do think it isn’t that much of filming. One day filming tops, and one or two days editing. Before filming I want the ‘game interface’ part being finished.
In the end it is just a concept. They will understand my timeframe, and my lack of tools. The idea is the most important, I guess.
I played with my concept some more, and this thing crossed my mind;
Wouldn’t the idea be cool that we live in a world where we can send digital, hologram, copy’s of our self onto the street to ‘multitask’ for us. These copy’s should have some thing that clearly make them look like copy’s. And that some people then would hack these holograms so you can’t tell the difference anymore, or something like that… It would be a very different world I guess. New oppertunities, and new crimes. Something like ‘I Robot’.
I’m not too experienced at judging filming time. Anything I’ve done seems to have taken much longer than it should have.
What about this, lets say the hologram copies didn’t act on their own but were instead a vast personal area network that you were the main server of. You could take remote control of them directly or schedule tasks that they would execute when directed. Guess that would be a real world cron, lol.
Are any of you guys doing the Uplift challenge as a video project? If so I would be interested in maybe helping out with compositing/effects or editing.
Spring is here!
These are the first flowers popping up. Time to start getting the yard in shape again.
Lily

I’m surprised the first rose of the year is a white one, thats the first time its happened.

Tons of tiny orange flowers. Hopefully we can get some oranges as well this year.

The azaleas have all shrivled up by now, but they were beauties while they lasted.

New bamboo shoots. I don’t know what the Japanese see in 'em, they taste terrible.

Just a blurry shot of a field of wildflowers.

Not as much wisteria this year. This stuff grows so fast and chokes everything out that I chopped most of it away last year. This is the time of year that shows why people grow this killing vine. Gorgeous flowers!

Man… i’ve been away for some time. I was toooo busy with my application. Making that simple film I was talking about earlier. It worked out pretty fine. A bit noobish ofcourse, but it was all conceptual.
How are things around here? This thread isn’t dead right?
For those waiting for weeks; for my fans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXdt2701i24
Not bad at all. I like how in the MyLife interface you swayed in the “stand” pose, nice little detail. Or maybe that was a groovy accident, either way it looked really cool.
Wyatt - that is some nice shots! I so envy you the level of spring… here things have just started to pop up. Still I’m going to start garden play today
Gunila - Good luck with your garden, we just have tomatoes and corn planted so far. I don’t know if we are going to plant any more but cucumbers and cayenne peppers have become a sort of tradition.
I’m not sure about the ‘THE REVIEW CIRCLE’ thread though. I like a thread where we can chit-chat a bit more about any topic, like we had here… But it is obviously dying.
Just got my first Sixpack Stash DVD’s (#6) today. 10 hours of great footage to check out
And: The weather is finaly becoming a bit better overhere in Holland! I love the summer, can’t wait for some higher temperatures
Well as much as people are talking about having more ways to communicate I imagine something will be done about it eventually.
But I like this thread for what it is and I like the review thread for what it is. I prefer the chit-chat more though. Hearing from people all over the world and seeing what people see in their parts is what keeps me coming back to this thread and ones like it previously. So more pictures!
And no I wouldn’t use a CGS chat service. There was one before and I didn’t use it then. Too much to do to sit in front of a computer all day. No offense to anyone, I’m sure the conversation would be excellent, lol.
Hi folks… I think the issue is that there’s SOO much info to look through that any one thread gets lost in the crowd. The only reason I ended up here is cuz someone entered a reply and was at the top of the thread list, otherwise I may not have seen it. It’s easy to take it a bit personal that the replies don’t happen often enough, but it’s just the nature of the beast called the net. Waaay too much info to cycle thru. Heck, I’ve started a thread for my entry in the contest, and nobody except someone who knew me from another forum was kind enough to post ANY reply. Guess the newbie has to earn attention :-), but it supports my claim I guess
So… very cool Wyatt abt the cedar playhouse you made. Always wanted to make a treehouse for my kids, but spent more time planning than doing, so now my kids are grown, and the subject has become mute. Also, nice flowers you have already. Here in NYC just the grass is starting to liven up :-). I’ll be planting also but last year, I was late with planting and it was a good move. There was a cold spell late, and my plants did the best overall. First time my ‘green thumb’ neighbor asked ME for tomatoes Lol.
Anyway… you guys enjoy your day… back to art I go.
Well, it is true that the thread becomes a bit complex and large to join. Though you can join any minute, because there ain’t no solid topic.
I also recognize your thing with opening a thread and getting NO reply’s at it. We newby’s are traumatized allready
So I think the thread isn’t for everybody, but with a small group of regular visitors it could be fun, compared to some story’s i’ve read about a Bonanza thread it can make some ‘friendships’. So I agree with Whyatt’s point of view on this one. I have a hard time joining the conversation in the review thread, because I don’t know how I can participate other than ‘nice’, ‘good’, ‘great’, ‘awesome’, etc.
About the chat… i’m not a chatter myself. But the idea to have some one-on-one contact with some fellow CGS members does sound interresting to me, and I certainly would check it out.
Dragneye, where in the NY area do you live? I’m a major NYC fan. I’ve been there for four times, and planning for some more trips. Though, being there for four times allready i’m trying to find some less-known spots to visit.
Well guys, you are all invited to enter into the review circle.
Check us out: THE REVIEW CIRCLE 004: April 07, 08 - April 13, 08
Yeah, we are blessed with a very long growing season down here but its funny. We still have to wait to plant till after the last frost of the year sometime in March-April. Those old farmers always know best. Also a nice coincidence, my grandfather grew up in New York and was a cattle rancher and farmer till he moved down south. Okay maybe not that amazing but still interesting.
Starting to get a lot of roses now.

These are some seedlings I’m growing for bonsai material. The 2 large plants are wisteria, the tiny spider looking plant toward the middle is the only Japanese black pine that survived my kids and the rest are misc. weeds and things that will probably get ripped out.
