Installing XSI 7.5 trial.

#1

Hello,

I am looking at upgrading my xsi 6.5 to 7.5, so I would like to install the trial version.

Right now I am having licensing issues.

I downloaded the trial version from autodesk website and installed it using the
software version, typical install.
Once installed, It complained of no interactive license, so I rebooted, now I have the
option to run in standalone mode.
After clicking run in standalone mode, right back to the ‘no interactive license xsi cannot
start’ and the program exits.
I do not see the ‘you have 30 days left…etc’ dialog and cannot get past the no interactive license error.

I am trying to run this product in trial mode. I have previousely not had XSI installed on this machine, although I have ran 3ds max trial of 2009 in the past.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

A few people (I believe) have had issues with getting things licensed recently, and wound up having to contact Autodesk. Over at the old Softimage forums a few of the support team keep an eye on things, so if you hear nothing here, you could always try there.

It sounds like you have the Network License version installed.
Try removing it and installing the Standalone version.

xsisupport : Thanks for your reply.

I am running the install using :

Softimage Software ( Default )

Typical Install

Standalone License

On starting softimage - no interactive license.
File downloaded after registration through autodesk website

If there is a different installion option I should be choosing, please tell me.

Thanks.

Hi

Those installation options are correct.

However:

  • The Trial version does not use any license.
  • The Standalone should not display the “no interactive network license available” warning.

I would remove Softimage (you’ll have to use Windows Explorer to go to the Setup folder in the Softimage 7.5 install folder, and run Setup.exe).

Then restart your computer and reinstall.

Hi,
I filled in the form, but didn’t get any information back about this, nor instructions how to install software.
Also there are 3 options, which is softimage, softimage advanced and mental ray.
Which one to install for trial?
Can advanced version be trialed at all?

In FAQ:

Q: Is there still a trial version of Softimage 7.5?
A: Softimage 7.5 is available as a 30-day trial* download from Autodesk.com at
http://www.autodesk.com/softimage. Please follow the instructions for standalone installation.
*Free products are subject to the terms and conditions of the end-user license agreement that accompanies the software.

There was no instructions…

Is there any sidegrade or discount for/from maya/max users?

And just one more questions, is it possible to run maya/softimage on same machine, and if licensing system interferes in any way?
Since they use the same technology now (FlexLM) is it possible to just use the one already installed instead of installing NLM and NLA?

Thanks

I have removed softimage, removed any entries from the registry. Every single folder and file relating to softimage is gone.

I proceeded to reboot, reinstall the software using the options you have said are correct.
Still it throws up the no interactive license error.

I have no idea how to get this trial working, I am no convinved a standalone license would work even if I purchased it. Please give me some advice on how to get this working.

If this is not going to be possible, please give me the XSI 7 trial download as not much changed.

I would also appreciate an answer to this :

And just one more questions, is it possible to run maya/softimage on same machine, and if licensing system interferes in any way? Since they use the same technology now (FlexLM) is it possible to just use the one already installed instead of installing NLM and NLA?

From what I have read, you cannot install the 7.5 trial if you have any other existing Softimage packages installed. Try un-installing everything related to Softimage and then install the 7.5 trial. The new UV Unfold tool is awesome btw, I’ve tested it on several examples and it appears quite solid.

What OS are you running on?

#11

I have removed softimage, removed any entries from the registry. Every single folder and file relating to softimage is gone.

My OS is Windows 7

#12

I don’t have Windows 7 to test with, so I don’t know for sure whether it should work or not.

Can you open a Softimage Command Prompt and run:

set FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
xsi -standalone

What errors do you get? (you can copy the error text from the dialog box by clicking the dialog and pressing Ctrl+C; at least you can in XP or Vista).

It is strange that the Standalone install is trying to get a Network license. That is not supposed to happen.

I wonder if this is my problem with the actual v7.5 product cause I still have v7x installed??

Otherwise, is Windows 7 available for sale yet??? :banghead: Why even bother trying to get this working on something that obviously isn’t even certified for use with Softimage??

I have 7.5 trial working just fine with 7.01 installed under winxp 32.

Must be something to do with win 7.

#15

7.5 can coexist with earlier versions of XSI.

I have many different versions installed, and both SPM and LMTOOLS.
On 32-bit XP and 64-bit Vista.

When you register for the product trial you get to an Autodesk page which reads.

Product Trial

Thank you for your interest in the Autodesk® Softimage® 7.5 30-day trial. Your trial begins after you download, install the file, and launch the program.

Before You Begin Your Download

[ul]
[li]Note the system requirements below.[/li][li]Ensure you do not have a previous version of Autodesk Softimage on your computer. The technology in Autodesk Softimage 7.5 is designed to allow only one installation of the 30-day trial version per computer. Also, if a beta version or activated version of Softimage 7.5 was previously installed on your computer, it will not be possible to install the 30-day trial version. You may, however, install the 30-day trial version on another computer to continue evaluating the software. If you require assistance, email Customer Care.[/li][/ul]It does say “Autodesk Softimage” so maybe that doesn’t count for older versions when it was XSI?
