I posted this over in the Wings forum; Thought I would share it here as well. Maybe I’ll get some feedback…
I’ve got an addition to Wings3D’s long to-do list; improved scene management. Im doing a bedroom scene and the Geometry Graph is getting very long. Also the objects appear in the order in which they were created which is not necessarily the best order for me. Right now, the Geometry Graph is adequate, but cumbersome to use in large scenes. It doesn’t quite fit in with the speed of the rest of the app. Don’t worry, I’ve got a possible solution.
Something as seemingly (Im not a programmer) simple as adding Groups to the Geometry Graph with a little plus or minus sign to expand or collapse the geometry within the group (a la folders in Windows Explorer) would really clean things up. Also, the ability to alphabetize or manually re-arrange the Geometry Graph would be nice.
I’m coming from a Maya background…I love Group Nodes, the Hypergraph, and logical naming schemes. Though the Hypergraph might be a stretch (although it was mentioned that UI improvements are in the works), Groups are already in there. A well organized scene is right around the corner.
Anyone else out there think this a good idea?
Wings is great. Always looking forward to future releases!
