importing psd files as layers...

Hi all,
I know I should be able to do this but I’m not sure why I can’t…
I have a photoshop file with about 8 layers.
I want to import it into AE with the layers intact ( so I can animate each layer individually ).
I go to import as a ‘composition_cropped layers’ and it still comes in as the single flattened file…not with the layers.
Is there something I should be doing in either the photoshop file when saving or something else or AE import that I’m not doing?

Check, whether the file is correctly in RGB mode.
