Importing Models but their materials are gone (newbie)

#1

I did a crater scene 3D tracking from VCP using a free tracker. I’m trying to import random models from turbosquid into my scene. But when I either import or merge the files into my scene, all their materials are gone and they don’t render correctly, none of them are vray and the rest I’m still learning the renderers, can anyone tell me the simple solution here?

I could provide links directly to the models if need be as well.

I downloaded a chrome terminator model as well and when I try to change the environment to the 3d tracked scene the “chrome” look goes almost translucent.

These are all very simple I’m sure but I cannot figure these out at all.

It depends on the file, are the files Max files? If so you should be able to merge them just fine. If not then most of the time materials don’t convert between formats.

As for the chrome, if you’ve got a background for your scene but no type of spherical environment map then it will be reflecting the background and it will look transparent.

I try importing but their textures are just gone, I feel like there is some sort of simple solution I’m missing here.

Well the tank is a .3ds format which is a terrible format

Are you sure your textures are in the right place? Are you sure it even has the textures? Check that there are actual texture maps with the files. Then check the material editor to see if the materials have textures applied.
