Hi, i am newbie in CGTalk, i haven’t looked at old threads yet. Sorry if this thread was talked before. i just want to import Cinema 4d (.c4d) file to Wings. is there any plugin for this? i searched Google but couldn’t find anything. Please help me
importing Cinema 4d (.c4d) file to Wings
Sorry if this does not answer the question, but when I want to transfer a file from C4D to Wings, I just export it as an .Obj file.
Must it be a .c4d format ?
( I’m a newbie myself. )
i am using Cinema 4d demo version. Demo doesn’t permit to export any file. i need exactly .c4d file to be imported by Wings3d. Do you have any ideas ? Don’t say that i must buy Cinema 4d. i don’t have enough money
i just want import plugin for Wings
As far as I know, Wings doesn’t import .c4d files.
I think it has to be .obj, .3ds, .mdl, etc.
I’m still not sure what you want. Do you want to model in the demo of C4D and export to Wings ?
I think you are going to have to buy the program for that.
What is your budget ?
I have C4D CE +, and I think I paid less than $200 for it direct from Maxon.
I am just starting to learn the program, but love it so far.
Good luck !
The Demo of C4D wont save C4D files either, so you can’t export a C4D file form it in the first place (not that wings can import C4D files anyway as it doesn’t support the format, nothing does apart from C4D).
If you’re talking about modeling in wings and bringing it into C4D then just save as an OBJ file in wings and import in c4d (the demo supports importing).
use Cinema 6CE (free, but requires registration with Maxon) in combination with Wings3D to model. Use UV-mapper(free) to UV-map your models. Set ut your scenes in CE and make the final render in C4D Demo. Save your render by doing a screenshot.
Forgot to mention: 6CE is not totally free. You have to pay for the magazine it is attached to. I haven’t seen one in a while but you can alwasy order back issues from most 3D magazines. If you sing up on one of courses at www.eclecticacademy.com then a CE copy is included.
if Cinema 4d 6 CE is free to export as you say, i think it’s worth to give a shot thanks.
is it illegal to import a .c4d file to Wings by plugin? 3d Studio Max plugins are everywhere if i wish Cinema 4d plugins were too
There’s nothing stopping someone from writing a plugin for Wings to import C4D models … EXCEPT … that Maxon doesn’t have open docs explaining the C4D format. It is basically an internal format for them so it isn’t like a programmer can just sit down and ‘translate’. If you wanted, you could also write a Wings import/export for C4D (at least the Wings format is knowable) … but it would likely be more problem than it is worth as they don’t necessarily support the same types of structures - C4D can support open meshes, Wings doesn’t, C4D has parametric primitives that would at least have to be converted to meshes to open in Wings, etc.
The easiest thing is to use a format common to both apps to transfer the data (like OBJ).
C4D CE (the free one) and C4D CE+ (the $99 upgrade) both support import/export of OBJ and work with Wings perfectly fine. (As I’m sure the later versions of the software do as well.)
The only issue with Wings - C4D collaboration using OBJ is that the scale is drastically off between apps. IIRC - I had to tell C4D to scale something like 30:1 when importing so that it wasn’t incredibly small. (Or maybe it was 1:30 so that it wasn’t incredibly big.)
Objects UV mapped in Wings also retain their UV coordinates, so as long as you re-apply your UV texture in C4D everything is where you expect it to be. (Works quite nicely, actually.)
