Importing animation: Maya to XSI - Nulls?

#1

Hey there. Need a little advice on what to do with nulls in XSI
Using maya 2009, crosswalk. and XSI 6.5

I’ve imported a baked animation from Maya to XSI. The animation plays okay, However it seems XSI creates “null” objects where joints/bones should be?

Im new to XSI, so not to sure if there is a simple solution to use XSI bones instead of these nulls. I thought maybe about trying to parent joints to the nulls, not sure if this would work though.

Any advice would be great

That’s the way it works.

Due to the big differences in the way stuff works in the various apps, nulls are most simple way to have some form of visual cues for the bones after export/import. As you say all animations works, so that part works. You can go back into maya though and see the bones again.

Thanks.

Is it possible to attach XSI joints/bones to the nulls within XSI?
As I’m working in a team where were exporting out from XSI into a game engine.

i’ve used the nulls to quickly position a rig guide before. just move the appropriate joints to the appropriate nulls, create rig from guide, and envelope.

Hah! That sounds like a great solution. Thanks for that tip!
