importing 3D camera and footage together

#1

I just started to do 3D compositing with C, but that perspective view is a bit complicated for me. I know 3ds max and I would like to import a rendering into C with an animated camera and use C to render some planes in the background. (good example is a 2D rainbow behind a 3D object)
AFAIK there are two ways I can go:

  • RPF transform layer:
It works, but all views got locked to that background. In perspective view I cannot see anything useful, because everything is full of the imported footage. Actually the little camera icon moves around, which is fake as I understand.
  • ASE camera import:
The import finishes (I know I have to change Y and Z) and I can see the camera icon moving around in the perspective view, but now, camera view is distorted – as the footage doesn’t move, while the camera does.

I would like a moving camera with the imported footage locked to it.

I think my understanding of 3D compositing space not the best, as I am from a 3d modelling background, not from a 2D compositing one.

After importing the ASE file place your footage in front of your camera to fill the camera view. As a trick it is easier if you keyframe your 3d camera in a neutral position and rotation.
Then slecet your footage layer and set the camera as parent object. Hope that solves your issue.
