Image not finished enought ?

#1

Hi there,
I posted this image on 3d stills and was astonished to recieve a e-mail telling me that my work dosn’t fit your standard as finished piece ( 2 times even i have done some modification ) , so i would really know on which criteria cgtalk moderators are judjing it no finished enought ? i mean the character isn’t renderd against a blank background or half cropped …, iam really curious to know what is the reason especially that i never had this kind of rejection of all my previous submissions which i consider less in term of efforts and quality compared to this actual one !

The image is fan art based on the famous god of war character : Kratos.

Here the image after modifications :

and here the original one :

Thank you.

Welcome to the club

I think something is going wrong with the approval of new pieces.

There’s nothing going “wrong” with submissions; if your work isn’t accepted and you received that message, it’s because your work doesn’t meet the standards that we expect from finished work. There was a huge thread a while back in General Discussions where I explained the criteria by which work is judged.

Hi,
Iam still not convinced due to the fact that there some bad quality work showcased now in the 3d gallery, iam not one from those who post links to these works and compare them to mine, i do respect their work even i judge it worse and does not deserve the showcase according to THE HIGHT STANDARDS you are talking about ! i started drawing at the age of 3 and cg stuffs in late 90’s and made over than 100 proffessional on air works from concept to final editing
for sure its no making me the best artist on the workd, but at least i know judge the others works and as well as judging mine !
I still believe and convinced that the image you declined is very good quality in term of color shems, compostion , sculpting / modeling , rendering … and this according to my personal taste and perception as well to the nice feedback it has got from others forum !!

The thing is that the piece I submitted is not worse than my other works which HAVE been added to the gallery. It seems like the criteria were greatly sharpened since a couple of months ago. That is why I thought it was weird that it got rejected, especially if I look at some of the other work which apparently gets approved, no offence.

maxwaver7, the problem is that when you do fanart, your work is immediately going to be compared to the original. And if it’s not at least as good as the original, your work will come up short by comparison. In this case, I think your work, while good, nevertheless has a lot of room for improvement. If you want it to be accepted into the gallery, it needs to be better - that means improving your musculature, your displacement, your shaders (especially the skin), and some of your texturing, in particular.

At the risk of sounding abrasive, I don’t care if you’ve been drawing since you were 10 or how much professional work you’ve done - I am looking at this image, and that’s all that counts.
