IGES, obj, alias v8.x not working!

#1

So far I’ve tried every method and . filetype that both Rhino and Maya im/export.

So my question is this: Is there a definitive, solid, but most of all reliable way to import NURBS into Maya from Rhino?

Just make shure you installed and loaded (Plug-In Manager: DirectConnect.mll) the Direct Connect Plugin!!!

Than Import: Step_DC

It works great to me that way.

We do it via IGES.

  • Open File in Rhino
  • Select all necessary objects
  • Go to -> File -> Export selected (may it’s a little bit different called - we use a german version with Datei -> Auswahl exportieren
  • Use IGES as Dateiformat
  • In the next window (Iges-Export options) Select Maya as Iges-Type
  • Click on Advanced Options (german “Genaue Einstellungen…”
  • Click on “Edit Type” next to “Maya”
  • Click on “edit” (make sure Maya is still selected)
  • There you should have this settings:
    ----first tab----
    Name: Maya
    IGES-Version 5.2
    Textdateitype: "CRLF (MS-DOS), Windows)
    Skala1
    ----second tab----
    Pointobjects: 116 (Getrennte Punkte)
    Max. Grad: No Limite
    X checked
    X checked
    O unchecked
    O unchecked
    ----third tab----
    Getrennte Flächen (deatached surfaces??)
    Getrennte Flächen (deatached surfaces??)
    Surfaces 114
    O unchecked
    O unchecked
    O unchecked
    O unchecked
    O unchecked

Back in the Export options:
IGES-Toleranz 0.01
IGES-Einheiten What ever fits to you and the scene
X checked
O unchecked

–==================Fire up Maya

->Windows->Setting Preferences->Plugin Manager
-> Check Iges.mel
-> Go to File->Import (open doesn’t work)
-> Select your Iges-File and Import
-> If this is a huge file, go 4 a coffee

Sorry, late answer but I just saw the post today…

Yea, no man, better late than never. Thanks for the settings. I’ll go through and change em.

Turns out I just didn’t have the iges.dll loaded.
