Hi Ian, very nice learning source. Really, it downloads fast enough.Much better than the other tutorials you had which were on a higher resolution but slower on the the downloading. Have a nice day.

More applause for Ian.
I find such tutorials extraordinarily helpful and only
wish they were available back when I was starting out.
A big thank you, Ian!

I have to second that. One of the most frustrating things with EI and EIM as a beginner (and long time user now), were (and are) the lack of organized tutorials. Most seemed to be put together by other users taking the time to help dingbats like me to understand how the software works. That’s why I have pointed to Hexagon in the past, not to recommend the software but to give an example of how it can be done very simply and effectively, with their mini, built directly into the help, video tutorials. Its a great learning aid.
Ian seems to be the man as far as video tuts go and I like and appreciate them very much.
I hope EI is paying you for them Ian, because it is something that they should be doing themselves and you are bringing a lot of added value their product as far as I am concerned!

Agree 100% as well. This I tihnk will be a real issue when modeller ships. Imagine if they could have at least a handfull of these video tutorials up when the product begins shipping. As a new customer, seeing these while I’m deciding if I want to buy or not would be awesome.

Good one, excellent point when modeller comes out i will like to see a lot of these ones as well, that is why i went to Cinema4d,it was a tough decision but it was worth the money for what o use it for. But i want to be able to render some excellent quality renders. Cinema was very helpful and i had to know some other software besides Maya , since the industry is going Maya,Cinema,Max everyday more.
I hope they come out with as much video tutorials they can afford to.I consider purchasing EIAS because they talk a lot of crap about EI.
Well, BRAVO Ian once again.

What I’d hope for Modeler to provide is a few intense take-no-prisoners tutorials that cover complex cases (cars, product design, architecture, organics, etc., with several no easy escape modeling conundrums) and above all explain why the instructor has chosen to go certain routes to solve things. As nifty as Hexagon’s online help and tutorials are, they are mostly of the “this tool does this” type (I have a love-hate relationship with SDS modelers: most of them assume the user wants to do characters and organics, and there is hardly anything out there covering hard surfaces modeling from an SDS standpoint. Hexagon is so modeling styles-complete that it often leads me to analysis paralysis :D. Strangely enough, some Digitaltutors’ Maya tutorials seem far more applicable to Modo in that regard than Modo guru Dan Ablan’s ones).

Anyway, I could easily imagine the original EIM manual done as a videotutorial. I wonder if that would be an interesting selling point.

I’m pretty sure it would. I for one have learned most of my applications by myself and overtime I developed many bad habits that are hard to get rid of. A solid base of video tutorials from beginner to advance user would certainly attract buyers.

I think modelling is one are where videos are incredibly useful. At the same time, I think a good tutorials covering complex projects are very difficult and expensive to do well. As much as I would like these, I think they are more in the rhelm of becomming a sellable product as opposed to free tutorials. That is unless someone is willing to step and and do some

I think the smaller videos should be developed/supported by EITG as a marketing/support tool for it’s customers.

Good screencasts are an amzing training tool. I’m glad this is becomming the standard approach for “eLearning”

Phenomenal work Ian.

Yesterday I sent links out to some of my clients how had questions about some of these topics.

This is the kind of tutorial overview series EIAS always needed but never had.

If I had to decide between manuals and video tuts…hmmm…
When it comes to solving a given problem I often find it frustrating that the manual
tells me the name of a tool or a button, explaining what it is generally for (ok, thats important too) But it never told me HOW to use it...and may be this simply cant be done with a written manual.
But thats the strength of video tutorials. And besides the tuts theme you always learn about some minor matters and the authors workflow. Very effective and so much important for beginners. And last but not least its much more funny to watch a likeable guy like Ian (f.i.) working
with EIAS then reading dull manuals

I don`t know if I had bought EI some years ago if at this time I had been aware of how important it is to have learning-support and how deep the lack of EI was concerning that point.
Here in germany I guess most people use Cinema or Max…it seems you can count german
EIAS-users with some fingers
Same with related learning stuff. You can get dozens of books and tuts and whatever about
Cinema or Max…but try to find stuff about EIAS.

It is great to have that excellent software and seeing it getting ahead again.
But, as someone wrote above, to attract new buyers it will be very much important to offer more extensive material for learning it.

So I also think EIAS should really push that video-tuts in the future…considering them as a part of marketing strategy.

Cheers
Tom

These are just great tutorials, great job producing them Ian!

I have noticed a number of new users on the boards and I know these tutorials will cut down on the learning curve for them.

And for me too!

Thanks everyone for the very kind words.

It was really important to me to get these little basic movies done before moving on to vocational subjects, like, the current video in production is a start to finish Arch Vis tutorial for Paralumino. I’m waiting on a bug fix in the layers shader to be made public before I can release this though.

Cheers again,
Ian
