I5 Minute Sketchathon - Thread 2: Sketches
1st one in a while…
lukx, you’re quite athletic!

Spent longer on this piece for the practice…

I love this thread and figured this was the best way to submit work on CGtalk and have an excuse for it being sketchie.
Anyhow, I ended up spending 20 minutes because when I looked at the time by ten minutes I swear it only felt like a minute or two before I glanced again, and it was already 20 minutes.

I’ve just noticed this thread and thought I might join. But starting from the beginning of the thread, so… here’s the first one.

Nice sketches, guys.
cypherx, I love that Jolie! Nice going there.
Mike welcome to the sketchathon and YES, the beginning is a great place to start, since there are so many cool poses.
Can’t wait to see the rest of your sketches. ![]()
Queensoul - yeah, if I started now, I would miss a lot of practice… I’ve just looked at the number of the page… 54 or somethihg… a LOT to go through, but it’ll be a lot of fun ![]()
Thanks Queensoul. You know, had I looked at your signature I would have had such an easier time finding the reference thread! It’s right there in front of my face. I think this sort of thing is fun, and I’ve had a lot of practice because some of the CGtalk members on my IM play a game with me where they find a picture and give me 10 minutes to draw it. 15 minutes is so much better, methinks! And I shall voice my opinion about that asap.
Anyhow, I like mike have been going thru looking at the various references you guys have. I love all the dynamic poses!
one more for me

I’ve bin having the reference images lying around on my HD for quite a while now … finally got my self together and did one… kinda went over 15 min a bit here… its more like 25 min ups
.
If you have the patience to sit though it you can watch me paint this in real time, just download the .rar file, uncompress it and open the .html document.

warning the server service is kinda new to me so I don’t know what might pop up ad you when to go the download site.
cypherx,
Welcome aboard! Great sketches! ![]()
MikeTheHunter,
Welcome aboard too!! Glad you could join us!
Great to see you here, Dave! ![]()
Will try to look at the file later…you should do that for the OFDWs!
Cheers,
~Rk
Thanks, Rebeccak
I’ve always been a little apprehensive about posting on this site, a post like this makes one a tad bit comfortable.
Anyhow, this really is my final post for now. I hardly ever do muscles unless I’m working with charcoal, so figured this would be a good opportunity for me to do one.
excellent references, guys, and I’ll keep my eye on this thread to see what people come up with. There’s some amazing artists here.

cypherx,
Great sketch! ![]()
If you do charcoal drawings, post 'em up here:

No need to be shy!

hehe
there is no way that would be possible on my current system, it takes up massive computing power to record the screen while painting, and I can only pull it off because its a low resolution and quickly painted image.
but it might be fun to do highlights of the painting process, just quickly illustrating the different stages of a painting, kinda like a moving step by step, I would love to see that from other users.

I would love for you or anyone who wishes to do so, from the OFDWs or otherwise, to do step~by~step tutorials.
You needn’t ask me ~ just create a new thread, and call it: TUTORIAL - what it’s about - by your name.
Hope to see one of yours soon, Dave!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
cypherx: Welcome! Good stuff youre presenting. So keep it up!
MikeTheHunter: Welcome to you too !
Good stuff everybody else too.![]()
Heres some of mine… that fighter is supposed to be Jackie Chan… I dont believe it how hard and complex hes facial features really are… Im totally mindnumbed by it.
So as usual had few extra tries to things that suck to learn and outgrow them.

Falcor_ : the expression on the last face sketch came out just the right way, in my opinion. Great work, efficient hardheadedness on your side to do that more than once!
This reminds me of a question - rebecca or anyone of those great talents out there:
Is it actually possible/advisable to approach the face or human head in the same gestural way we practised this in this thread and on others in this subforum with complete bodily gestures?
I mean, how do you gesture-sketch a face? I guess you can use the opposing curves lesson alright once you established guide lines, but the first step… any thoughts on this anyone?
thanks for reading - hope you don’t consider this spam:)
Hey, thanks for warm welcome!
This thread is pretty active, I must say. Great ![]()
Here goes another one
I think his arms are still a bit short, even after I corrected them on the way…
MikeTheHunter,
No problem! Great sketch!
Like the colors and the reflections…keep up the good work!
Cheers,
~Rk
