Hymn - new piece + animation

#1

Hello everyone

Been working on this project for the last 3 weeks or so, finally done!
This jpg is a still frame from a short animation. Watch the original clip here: http://www.vimeo.com/8134255

Thanks for watching

Nice. The layers have a very real, solid feeling. Subtle use of lens flare.

Well done.

amazing Job! I like it very much, Its great to look at your work develop further as time goes. Amazing job man!

Very nice piece, I like a lot the cinematic look it has, I’m not sure but I didn’t see any water surface animation, also I would add some slight move to the low clouds, maybe a little dolly in would look better for an establishing shot, some flock of birds flying in the distance, maybe a waterfall any other dynamic object that make it alive would help to sell the illusion

James in line with your comment, where do you think we can get good waterfall footages? Or water bodies for that instance, is there a web where we can download these elements?

in this case what I would do is generate a water surface in the 3D software , that’s pretty easy to do, or if you have a camera just go to a high point and shot some clips, but I would still do it in 3D, you don’t need much wave detail, just a simple noise animation in the bump or displace channel

For waterfalls just use particle systems (in max), works like a charm

Thanks guys, but I was thinking of the waterfalls in the case where it’s the Foreground element. Yes it is slightly off topic but I always wanted to place an animated waterfall somewhere mid ground or foreground but can’t find a really good source material.

For distance ones, I actually had some success with just animated planes and animated textures with transparency mask. Yes 3D geometry with noise modifiers can work too, plus a little magic in comp and I’m sure it will be good to go.

Thanks again, I guess I’m back to either filming my own elements or busying them online…

Hi Jorik,

Nice piece of work, looks very polished. A few minor issues stand out as already mentioned, to add to these i think the parallax might be a little too much, when adding geo, try and lay them out as close to real world scale as possible this ensures the correct parallax  The layers appear slightly flat too, not sure if they’re on planes or blocked out.

Regarding the waterfalls, this can be done a few ways as mentioned; with particles, baking soda, stock photography/post warping, displacing geo etc…

Dave.

Thanks for the comments guys

Yea I agree that the water needs movement. I just didnt have time for it yet :frowning: But for next time Im gonna defenately try and tackle that one.

Everlite: yea I did do my scene as close as possible to realscale to get the correct paralax. I just think I moved one of the layers too much so the parallax is a llittle much. I also agree with that the layers seem flat because of it. i did not block it out I just used planes… also stupid :stuck_out_tongue:

well lots to learn and all these comments help a lot  Thanks guys!
