reiv really like your skin shader, in teh next few days hope to try reproduce it on lw.

here my first image fot this beautiful thread:

the model

lightwave, 1 area light + 1 spot

@ reiv- now… that´s better  … it is really a help

thank you for sharing

your model, light + texturing looks really nice… no crits

Reiv
You’re my god
Thanx alot - I’ve just made a English version (If it’s allright with you)

Can we get more? Mix amounts, noise and all that stuff? Hehe - I hope it’s no trouble - but your texture is awsome

I’ve been working on a study of the human head for4 months now (after work) and chose Milla Jovovich as my model. Getting the lights to react the way i wanted has been one hellava journey. So i thought i’d post it for you guys. This was done in 3dsmax 5.1 without any 3rd party plugs. No shaghair plugin., but i do plan i giving her hair. (any tutorials or tips would be very helpful. I haven’t yet found a tutorial on hair that met my standards quality wise)I hope my attempt has done some justice in showing off her real beauty :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
There are 3 spotlights on her and one omni.
it seems to give just enuff illumination. I’ve yet to put in translucency to give her ears some colour but i will do that soon. everything was done using painted texture maps. no precedural noise or anything. I’m not too sure if that was a good thing to do as i’m planning on doing the rest of her body. but until then…

o, the DOF was done using combustion, i just rendered out an rpf with a z depth. I’d rather do that than use the camera DOF.that just takes forever!

BTW,Reiv, your head looks awesome! How long did it take you to make it?
and What map is giving your head that nice white highlight across the neck and face? Is that the work of the Brazil shader?
I cant for the life of me get this kind of highlight without over saaturating the diffuse channel.:buttrock:

Hehe - Heya people!

This is then fourth version of the model - unwrapped, and remodelled four times:

New renders are on the way, but my maschine keeps freezing,
when I’m turning on GI in Brazil, any idea to fix this problem?

orangefisk:

looking better and better! Is it only lighting with bump map? Cant seem to find any color map on him, or maybe you should make it a bit stronger. Also, the eyes looks a bit unnatural.

#667

So… Brazil just won’t work anymore - keeps freezing few buckets into the render. I’ve now tried to accomplish the quite the same
shader with max standard raytrace material. So here we go:

#668

Here is my latest wip… looking for help in the texture…

#669

My attempt at making skin without using a layered shader:

Anyone had any experience with SSS in Mental Ray? While they say it’s supported, I haven’t actually been able to find anyone who’s implemented it.

#670

sasquatch:

Looks real, LW right? How do you simulate translucency so well?

#671

sorry for the (maybe) stupid question:

The main task of this thread is to study skin shader, ok, but I suppose we are studying for generic skin. I mean, if I make some photo of my face, the result it will be surely realistic, but in animations this cannot work properly. So, if I want to post something I have to work on “generic” (maybe generic is not the right term) skin shader. Is it right?

anyway good works

thank you

:applause:

#672

CLAW: not LW (Wish I had access to G2, believe me). It’s Mental Ray for Maya. The translucency is a workaround for now; in the colour channel I set up a surface luminance node that drives a ramp controlling the gamma of the skin texture. As the surface recieves less light, the gamma boosts the red, and reduces the green and blue. this warms the shadows without lightening them. There’s also luminance driven maps for Translucency. But I can’t get them to behave properly; I need to look into controlling translucency based on light direction (ie, boosting it when a light is directly behind the ear, for instance).

If anyone’s had any luck with this, let me know.

Sas:

Sounds very cool! I must try i my self, care to save out your shadernetwork so I can take a look at it? Would be really help full!

#674

Here’s mine I never finished… I was trying to make an old man… kinda of posesed… :stuck_out_tongue:

May be one day I’ll continue…

#675

DKScully:

The ears looks nice and soft.

#676

something different…I used a sss plugin in Lightwave.

2 procedural textures…no bump, specularity or reflection maps yet. I wanted to get the shading right first. The sss effect is a bit much in this render…I will lower the settings once the texture maps are done.

This is an endomorph from my avatar model.

Thanks Claw…

Here it is, I’ve just finished my Princess.
I’ve used the shader I’ve previously post.
Heres is the thread with higher res pics:

And the pic:

She is beautifull reiv, maybe you can improve the hair roots under photoshop.
