Human Skin WIPs and Tips (Everyone feel free to post your own skin WIPS here too)

#601

Hello All,

I got my uv map created and am ready to start painting the textures. But I wanted your opinion on whether or not I got enough of the distorion out of the uv to proceed??

Thanks again for the tip on symetry dobermunk, it really sped things up for me.

#602

Cheek area will be problematic. Depends on where you plan to have how much detail, and whether it crosses the distortion or runs along it. i.e. under the nose a vertical wrinkle follows the distortion, hence - it will just be a longer wrinkle. But if it is a horizontal wrinkle it will becomae a squiggle…

This is my Skin WIP

That looks really interesting!
I don’t know if you use a SSS plugin but It looks like it.

What software do you use?

Keep on.

3djack:

Really nice and soft human skin there! Care to explain how you did it? What renderer, and what technique?

#606

The ripper & CLAW:
thanks for nice comments. All I did is render each pass seperately : Diffuse, Specular, Color .,etc and adjust the blending mode in After Effect.
I am using LW + G2.
cheers

3djack:

Thanks for the reply! Well, what advantage is it to render all that separate? And, how did you get that soft look, thanks to G2 or is it radiosity, arealights?

#608

Hi 3djack (and others posting work)

could you describe your lighting situation briefly. I am always suspicious how well one skin surface will adjust to another light situation, so this information is very useful.

I really love the look of your skin 3djack, I assume the above is straight render and below is the AfterEffects tweak? Any screenshots of your settings and light setup (i.e. standard 3 light setup etc.) would be great.

the advantage of rendering everything in passes is that you can tweak the final look in post rather than rendering with different settings until you find the best solution.

CLAW and dobermunk:

if you rendering everything in passes , you still can change the brightness, color, contrast .,etc during compositing. My lighting setup is general 3 lights setup and the key light is area light.
Both images are tweak in aftereffects.
cheers

Would it be possible to see the original render so we can compare it to the final tweaked pic? Thanks.

I’ve been following this thread for quite a while, and thought maybe I should participate with a wip too…

This is my latest wip - stylised texture, like semi real. If you want any wires, maps, unwrapping shots - just tell me, and I will post some later

C&c’s are very welcome

The wip can also be found inthis thread

uh… I kind of was looking for a thread like this when I posted for help in the softimage corner. Heres what i’ve got so far.
Its getting very tough to read for all pages though

I still need to know how to make diffusion in XSI

#615

Hey all, here’s my most recent render of this strange little character, been tweaking the skin a bit, so far there isn’t anything but colour, spec and bump going on here, two lights. Gimme yer crits and suggestions please! Thanks!

Hydra:

I like the translucency effect you’re getting. Wanna explain how it was made?

#617

buhu damn i have missed this massive thread, many pages to read through :). Thanks all u guys and girls for sharing your knowledge, for free. I dont mention anyone because the list would be long and i might forget someone.
well this is sort of my first attempt to a realistic human face. Done in lightwave, no plugins. I have tried to implement some tips i learnt in this thread, like blue hightlights, red lights… butt i got problems whit the texture, lightning and surfaceing :p. It is supposed too look like an asian female in her best years  I want some more trancelusensy on the ears and so on…
BTW sorry for the bad english.

Not anatomical correct (my first head), but since I have just finished texturing (and that’s what this thread it talking about) I thought it may be a good idea to share. (Honest & constructive) critics or feedback very appreciated.

Greetings

Hey cant,

Great work so far, especialy for you first head, I am looking at this and trying to help out a little. the one thing that sticks out to me right now is that the skin looks like it has no oils on it. I would say use a specular map and stuff to add some oily spots on the nose and forhead and what not, I think that would help it out. Also around the nose area it seems like you just painted a little red area around and on the nose on your texture, maybe vary it a little more. I hope this helps. peace
