G2 in Lightwave,
I added a weightmap in translucency channel on the ears, it’s “boosted” (name of the function) by G2.
There was a great tut on G2 somewhere but can’t find it…

i think the texturing makes him look dirty…and hes ugly cuase hes…i just dont know. he looks ugly too me.
Personally i don’t have anything against ugly (just look at my avatar
) .
But i think that this guy looks mach older without textures , so may be u need use this on the texture process and make him less yang ? …
Anyway it’s good model and really good textures Deluxe ![]()

Here’s my little attempt at skin surfacing. I’ve been following this thread for some time now and picked up a lot of great tips!
Wel, here she is, not the final version, but finally something that I feel I can post

Please give me your comments because I’ve been working on this model for such a long time that I don’t know how to improve! Thanks!
Ayreon
Nice mesh, me likes
The skin is still plastic though. Perhaps some infos on lighting/rendering/shading would allow us to help more…
Would like to see some other view too
Thanks for the replies. I’ll post another render tomorrow. It’s a simple setup, radiosity with HDRI kitchen probe and two extra lights for more contrast. The model has color, bump, specular and diffuse maps. The radiosity just washes everthing out. But then again the shadows are much better then my other setups. I’ll try some different approaches and post my progress here.
Ayreon
That looks great for just a shader! Nice subtle effects like the little splotches in the skin. What program did you use?
Ayreon
Looks nice
Reminds me some Skin Shading by Richard Smith, http://www.richardnsmith.com/
Ayeron, if radiosity burns too much (specially with hdr background), what I do is, in Image editor, crank up the gamma of Kitchen hdr to 2.0.
This will soften the image.
Usually I also tone down the diffusion of my skin material to something between 80 and 60 %
You could try some reflection map too, they give better results than specs IMHO…
Thanks for the tips Facial! I’ve lowered the diffuse settings. I’ll give reflection maps a try, see what comes out. Here’s a closeup of the head, minus the hair, because that would take forever to render :thumbsdow

Mmmm, dunnoh what to say, it’s very colored for my own personnal taste…
About rendering, I don’t know for the others but I wonder if working directly for a radiosity output is not suicidal_render time wise…
I prefer to setup a bunch of area lights tweak my texture settings and then when I’m happy, setup a radiosity rendering, which basicly ask me only to lower a few values.
Though I quite not use radiosity (Too long, mostly unusable on prod).
But I don’t know if it’s the way experienced people work…
I used max 5 and rendered & lit with max scanline and regular spotlights with shadowmaps.
I just discovered this thread and thought i’d post a skin shader i’m currently futzing around with. This is my first skin shader and i’m working off of steven stahlbergs skin shading tutorial in maya.

he he, I like the model:)
anyway, cool that you’re using Steven’s method, I actually tried some of his ideas in Lightwave and I got really nice result.
So are you using ramps to control red and blue colors in the night and day side?
CLAW - thanks, yeah i’m using ramps to control the light and dark that part of the tut is pretty simple, the thing i have problem w/ is the specular. I can’t seem to get a good specular on the lips. Also the lighting seems like a problem as everything is washed out looking. Oh well, I guess i need to keep tinkering.
Hi there,
Just discovered this nice forum. I need help with
the texture of my head. I think it is not detailed
enough. Maybe someone could point me in the right way?
so here are some views and the color texture:

there is also a bump and a specularity map on this model.
I would like very much to hear some comments and critiques.
So feel free to post what you think.
have fun and happy painting, Bob
