Hi Robin,

I like how your Lucy is coming along. I think you’ve got the general head proportions more correct than I have but it would be cool to see more mesh detail before you go ahead and texture it.

I found it quite difficult to get good reference when I started mine over a year ago. I’ll have to get back to it once I’ve finished my current project.

I also found it more helpful when trying to compare my heads to the real thing to try and get the camera setup to how a real photo would be taken - roughly angled head height with SLR camera settings.
I tried playing around with the Virtual Darkroom too, using the standard presets for portrait pictures and stuff. It allways came out more grainy than I’m sure they were supposed to be but it’s probably resolution dependant - I should have been rendering at a much higher res.

I’m looking forward to seeing how your heads turn out. It should make seeing where I’ve gone wrong easier

Hi leigh I just got unwrap 2 but I cant figure out how to use it. What do you use to make your uv maps base that would be in wire frame. Thean do you take it in to photoshop.

#287

Hi isnt anybody there or is every body working right now please help me.

#288

With unwrap2 you need to have a texture map applied to the model. When you run unwarp2 you then select the texture map you want. Specify the image resolution and it will create the image for you.

#289

okay what can I use to make a uv map of my charecter to paint in photoshop.

I use LW’s native UV tools only

I suggest you read through the chapter on mapping in your manual - there is a section of UV mapping in chapter 28
Once you have your map, just take a screenshot of it, or export an EPS of it and open that in Photoshop.

Thanks leigh you rock.

i’m back on this one with a new test of skin shader.
This time i just used a simple color background (red/brown) with radiosity active in 6x18. One area light in the left and nothing special on shading. In fact i just have a color map, and a bump on this one. No plugs neither.

#293

hi strike, great work out there

what about fur on his chest? is it painted on your color map?

#294

I think I finally figured out how to get my charecter to look almost half way realistic without an mage map what do you think.

excellent strike
feel free to post wires and other POV.

#296

Nice Strike! More?
DaddyGoody remember to make sure your light setup is the same, when you make your skin surface, as your final render scene. Or else you’re wasting time tweaking. Good start.

#297

more ? here is the no morph render

#298

Strike, sorry to be noob about this but, are you saying that great skin does not have a color UV map applied and that only a bump is applied. Or are you saying that the radiosity is working together with your color map?
(also, great modelling and posing)

#299

It isn’t lightwave, its maya, but I figured I would get in on this. This is a total WIP, there is a temp color map and temp bump map on there. There is also a procedural for light wrap on skin, as well as a procedural specular, thats why it is very shiny. Gotta finish the current maps and do the actual specular, reflectivity, transparency, translucence and diffuse maps. Tons more work to do. Enjoy! Oh that’s based on my own hand.

Had to compress the image a lot too, looks kinda crappy.

Strike, I guess the key to realistic skin is basically to use radiosity, great work! Simply the best skin I seen in this thread.
