Human Skin WIPs and Tips (Everyone feel free to post your own skin WIPS here too)

jfbil - if you want people to comment on a piece of work, rather post a direct link to the image, and not a link to your site, or else people might think that you are only trying to get people to go to your site
Also, this thread is about human skin texturing, not dragons :surprised

Well, I guess I’ll put this in here. I did this awhile ago. Never finished it. Sorry for the size.

wow leigh, looks really awsome. really awsome. the only thing that bothers me is when i saw this picture…

i noticed some things. the nose seems to be wrong, it looks like his nose comes down a little further in the middle, is slightly wider, and the nostrils remain even on both sides. there is a slight difference, but your seems a bit extreme. also, his head seems to be slighty shorter, and stockier, well yours seems slightly longer in the face. from that picture, it seems his jaw structure is a bit more defined, but that could be your hair getting in the way of the actual head itself, making it look that way.

overall, great model, and i cant wait to see it finished.

That is awesome Leigh…where is the update? :applause:

Did you guys and girls see this Cool Skin Tutorial

I had to try this myself. This is work in progress…about 5 hours.

Skin test

Looks great werner! I would say the fore head needs some work yet though. It looks too smooth compared to the rest of his skin. I would add a few smaller wrinkles and smooth out the bigger ones just a hair. I would also change the whites of his eyes a little. I am not sure if they just need more blood vesels or what. But again excelent job.

hmnn, the colour of your skin is ok, but the different colours look like blattered paint, I hope you know what I mean, the colours end so abruptly, I think it should be more blurred or so

What should I doWith my person I would like some feed back what doe every body think.

#276

daddygoody,

I think the skin looks a little bland at the moment, you need a bit more varition and colour in the skin.

Pick a small area of your model to work on and get this skin looking good in that one area. Once that is done, then move on to working on other parts of your model.

I think you’re off to a good start, but have patience. You will get there in the end, but you need to work at it

#277

Okay But What Should I do should I make a seperate surface for each small area.

#278

For a complex character i would normally create seperate texture maps for different parts of the body. head, arms, torso, etc.

It all depends on the amount of detail you want. If you want more detail you may want more sperate texture areas or if you want less you may do the entire texture in one map.

I’d pick one ares (e.g. the head) and focus completly on that. Once you get a result that you are happy with, then start working on the rest of the model.

Unfortunatly there is no quick and easy way to create skin textures. It involves a lot of work and many, many test renders.

Skin in real life is mainly one colour, but there are a lot of other factors that affect the look of the skin. Most of these need to be faked to some extent by drawing the colour variations on the skin. Look at how other people in this thread have been doing the textures and see if you can recreate the same effects.

Keep posting your progress here, and maybe we can give you tips on what to improve on your textures.

it’s a wanted effect, i remember on lotr2 orcs these contrasted dark areas on their face, probably more than this…here in italy the dvd will be out in august :frowning:

hi gang, nice work Strike(looks kike you have some stretching on your maps, and maybe make them higher Rez too, nice modelling,Leigh Vigo’s getting there, keep it going(is the hair Sas,going to have to buy that …more money) on Vigo(modelling,Bottom lip should be fuller, chin should be brought up and made a tad smaller, your main problem area,is the cheeks at the front, on the render you have of him front on with the Photo,if you look at the cheek line(around the nose,to the line where his eye socket is)you need to push that all forward:wavey: also the eye shape is a little off(ohhh it’s so easy to crit other peoples work;) )
Heres a couple of heads nearly ready to texture
All the best Robin
