How would I get a job as a 3d modeller (graphic design) in the UK?

I’m 15 years old from Wales and I’m really into 3d modelling/ a bit of animation. Here is my latest project: https://www.behance.net/gallery/24024065/The-Spyrot-Jac-Harries

I’m wondering how would I get a job in modelling for example, how would I find a company/ studio hiring modellers, what type of university should I attend and what would I need to apply? I’ve also heard that you need a lot of experience before starting a job in this field so how would I find work experience or how much/ what experience would I actually need?

It’s great that someone as young as yourself is looking ahead to the future, but take things one step at a time. What education options are realistic for you, financially and in terms of location? There are several universities in the UK that offer good CG courses, but you may also want to consider getting a degree in something that isn’t specifically CG, but related and beneficial, like art or programming. This is simply because CG is a pretty unstable career choice, so it is worth considering investing in an education that could have application elsewhere, should you need to rely on that. Alternatively you could choose to go down the self-teaching route, but considering the way the industry is changing, I’d personally recommend that youngsters get some kind of formal education these days. It’s just a safer option, provided you can afford it, without taking on huge student debts.

In the meantime, considering your age, you’re at an advantage, as you have several years before you’ll go into higher education, which gives you a lot of time to develop your skills. Don’t worry about the job market and experience and all that right now; focus on learning and preparing for your education further down the line.

I completely agree with Leigh. First of all congratullations for your work and your maturity. The United Kingdom is one of the most important countries in CG matters of the world. There are a lot of important studios like Rockstar North. I would recommend you a bachellor in Game Arts and meanwhile… internet.

I wish I have had my mind as focused as yours when I was your age.!

There are some good universities in your country like Bournemouth University and Birmingham School of Media.

Regards!
