Lets say I have a mask object. This mask object must prevent the pixels being rendered behind itself. How can i get this effect?

I’m not in front of XSI right now, but I recently did this (normally called a black hole shader) using one of the new mental ray mip (production) shaders.
There’s a matte shadow shader, but i think i is a bit hidden away. Not sure why, maybe they were embarrassed that it had taken so long to code one 
Go into the Softimage\Data\DSPresets\Shaders\Material\mental images dir theres a file called mip_Matte_Shadow.Preset, it has heaps of options for a matte material.
