how to suppress particle from being affected by forces

#1

Hi All

This seems so simple but I can’t figure out how to do it, basically what I want to do is have some text which gets blown away by wind, at the moment have my paricles in the shape of the text using “position object” and then I have wind which blows it away. The problem however is that all the particles get blown away at the same time, what I’d like is for the top outer particles to blow away first and then the particles below those to blow away progressively.

I think one way to do this(please suggest something else if you can think of a better solution) is to have some sort of force which prevents certain particles from being affected by the wind force, some sort of dampener which I could link to say a square which I then scale down giving the impression that the text is being blown away from the outside.

Any help would be greatly appreceated!

Thanks

There are many ways to do this. Probably the most simple and fastest way to do it, is using a “Deflector”.
Another method is using a animated map like shown in these clips:

What wicked said. You can have a collition test operator, and animate a deflector to collide with the particles so that when they are only affected by a force when they have collided.

Also, most forces have a falloff. You can activate it and then animate the force’s position.

ah! yes let me try that, thanks for the tips guys

thanks for the help guys, I created a standard deflector and animated it across the text then hooked it up to a collision spawn thingy and it works perfectly.
