How to set contact points for the biped?


I’m doing my first acting exercise in 3DS Max and I’ve finished my golden key poses, which has a lot of contact points with itself (folded arms, hands clasped together, etc). I want to add more key poses and breakdowns for personality, but I need hands to stay firmly where I set them on the rest of the body. What’s the best way to go about this? I’ve already made a mess of my scene trying to figure out if slide keys with IKtargets or link constraints are the best way to go, and where exactly they go in the workflow to reduce the amount of problems caused.

Any experienced character animators know what I should be doing?
