How to replicate the "Metropia" style :)

#1

I posted this on the compositing software area, but something tells me I should post here…

I’ve seen Metropia several times and can’t for the life of me figure out how they pulled off the effect.

I’m guessing it’s after effects, and each feature is on its own layer, like the eyes, mouth, etc… and maybe the puppet tool is used to animate and distort them?

Either way it’s pretty amazing and someday I’d LOVE to replicate it. Any ideas??

Please help. Thanks!

Hi. I saw a presentation of the technique from one of the animators and Tarik Saleh last year at an animation festival in Norway. Basically its a bunch of warps and puppetools that are driven by time remapping (linked to a slider), so you basically get “morph targets”. The face is pieced together by seperat graphic elements (eyes, nose mouth etc) Its all 2D and it gives the impression of 3D. They used After Effects for everything.

Good to know! You wouldn’t happen to know where someone might find that presentation, ey?
