How to remove Mental Ray?

Can I remove mental ray from max without causing some error? If yes, how?

And why would u want to remove it? If u don’t like it just don’t use it.

just rename or delete the mentalRay folder in you max directory, this should do it… max will start way faster if you disable mentalray :wink:

Because I dont use it and I guess it uses some memmory and having all those mental ray options I dont use all over max is a bit annoying…

yeah delete mentalray directory, and in stdplugs : mrobjects.dlo, mrmaterial.dlt, mrshaders.dlt, mentalray.dlz and mentalray2.dlz (let mrmaterialattrib or max will popup at startup).
start and live faster !

just make a complete copy of your max root directory, and then try it. if for some reason it doesnt work you can just replace the ‘broken’ max with your backup. no harm done.

you should probably just rename the directory, and the stdplugs.

like so: mrobjects.dlo —> mrobjects.dlo.old

that way, if there are any errors, you can easily find the file/folder, and switch it back.

I know francescaluce, but I dont like stuff being around that I dont use anyway… and I can use the extra mem.

Starts faster indeed :smiley:
The mrlights and the mental ray rollouts in max’s standard lights are still there. Any1 know how to remove them too? :shrug:
