How to merge severial uv maps into one?

#1

hello guys,

i have a car model that will be used in a racing game. the car consists several parts, each part has an uv map.

my question is how to merge the uv maps into one in 3d max.

i merged the model parts in 3d max, and found out that the uv maps overlap. it is hard to separate them apart, as there is no tool in the uv editor to select connected vertices.

plus, i don’t want to actually merge the model, i just want all the models share one texture.

could you please tell me how to do that?

thank you.

I don’t use Max, but I assume there is a copy paste UV? use that or similar to move them, then delete the UV map you no longer want…and obviously you will need to move the parts you don’t want overlapping around to new positions in the combined UV space.

Seperate the different parts with Material IDs bfore mergeing them into one piece.
You may hide UV elemnts via Material IDs.

it is hard to separate them apart, as there is no tool in the uv editor to select connected vertices.

Actually it is quite easy. Use the pelt functions to do so. Select whatever face and hit the ‘Expand Face Sel to Pelt Seam’ Button. This should select the whole chunk.
