I believe there is a measure tool in layout.
Make Null , make him child of camera with Parent in place OFF. Point Camera to object (or even make object target for Camera). Now move this null along Z axis till object. See the Z numeric in left down corner of interface. U looking on distance from Camera to Object.
well…use the range finder plugin on the target of the camera under object properties>Geometry>Range finder. You will see the distance between the camera and the target next to the target and interactive
Even simpler.
Create a Null, go to it’s properties and “Add Custom Object”, pick “Range Finder” as the custom object, usually it will default to camera, but if it doesn’t just go to it’s properties and set it to Camera.
Now where ever you move the Null it will display on the screen the distance to the camera.
As an added bonus it doesn’t need to be parented to the camera, nor does the camera have to be targeted to it.
Thank you, Eugeny. I haven’t yet got very familiar with item motion features… think i will try it again after I finished chapter 11 of the doc, hehe.
Larry, Cgkoko and Yog, thank you, I think that’s the tool meant for the job.
