How to increase memory allocation

#1

Hi,

Couldn’t find this in an existing post. if this is not the correct area, please let me know.

I have always had problems with c4d crashing when working with too much geometry. This is not a visualization or rendering problem. I need to find out why i am receiving a "Cinema 4D is “Not Responding” when only 10% of my memory using utilized. Any place to start would be so helpful.

It is a misconception that you can tell an application how much memory it should use. You can limit the use of memory, but thats it. The application takes as much as it needs, until it reaches the limit set by physical RAMor the operating system.
Your problem has a different cause than memory.
The freeze you encounter is likely caused by a plugin acting up, try to disable all plugins and ceck again.

Thank you very much! I admittedly heard that memory allocation was something that could be done several years ago.

I tried reinstalling without any plugins and got the same results… It maddening.

Have you checked the taskmanager? Does it show a constant CPU useage during the freeze or is Cinema 4D using 0% CPU? If it is 0% it is some bug, if one core or more is constantly busy it might be the evaluation of your scene that is stuck somewhere. Usually Cinema 4D is good in recovering from this though.
You can try to start Cinema 4D with the commandline parameter g_console=true to open a console on startup, maybe it will give you more information as to what is happening during the freeze.
