how to generate texcoords on a sphere for panorama

hello how can i generate texcoords on a sphere mesh so that i can fit a spherical panorama texture on it?

In mapping there is one small button “Sphe” with conjunction with “Ortho”.

this sound like what i am looking for, but when i set the map input to sphere and Ortho i cannot see the image on the sphere in the viewport. also when i export the object to the OBJ format it does not have any texture coordinates!

For viewport you need UV coordinates. Unfortunately I never did such thing with UVs so can’t help.
