how to delete attachments from archived threads?

#12

Hi I want to delete some of mine too.

http://forum.cgcharacter.com/showthread.php?t=307638
http://forum.cgcharacter.com/showthread.php?t=241720

And is there any way to delete my account?

Thank you

These are not forum attachments. I cannot delete them.

The only way to “delete” your account is to remove all of your personal information from your profile.

#14

Khendar,

I would like to confirm this information: if I remove all my personal information from my profile it will be deleted, as well as all the threads I started and images I have uploaded. Correct?

Is this the only way to delete an account? Because I didn’t find this information elsewhere.

#15

Hello, is there anybody in there??? Could someone please answer my previous post?

I don’t want to remove all the personal information of my profile (the “only way” to delete an account, as you said) if the images I uploaded to the challenges won’t be deleted and will mantain my real name on them.

I want all my images deleted, please.

I’m waiting for your reply…

sepphora: If you get rid of your personal information from your profile then I can remove your challenge threads so your images will no longer be shown.

#17

Khendar:

I tried to remove my name but the message was shown:
“You have not completed the required field “Name”.”

And when I tried to remove my email:
“You have not completed all of the required fields: username, password, and email address.”

How is the “right way” to remove my personal information?

Could you please remove my images? That’s the main thing that is bothering me. If I can’t delete my account, I will just stop using it.

#18

Yes these are required fields, so if you want to remove your information you will have to put a period or dash or something so that they are not empty.

I have removed your challenge threads.

Thank you Khendar.

#20

Khendar, sorry but I just found out that these pages, although they don’t appear in my profile, they are still online with my name. Could you please delete them?

Please???

#22

After 15 days without any answer of you, I see that my images are still online. I had to make another account in your website just to reply this post, since the other one was deleted.

Please, someone that have the power to do this, I want MY images deleted. They still appear on Google results when I search my name, and I don’t want this.

Why one thing so simple needs to be so difficult in your website???

We do not have a mechanism to delete images from the challenge entries. To do so manually would break the challenge for everybody, something which we are not going to do for the sake of a single user. We’re working on a solution, but I’m afraid for the time being you will just have to be patient while we figure out a way to do it without endangering the work of thousands of other users.

Thanks for your patience.

Khendar,

How long do you think it will take to find the solution? My husband is a web developer and he could find a solution in three hours. For a problem unsolved for more than 15 days, I think you are not willing to solve it.

I think this situation is very bad for you and for all the artists, since you simply appropriate the images of thousand of people without paying for it, and taking away all the rights that the artists should have over their images.

Quoting the “Submission Terms” from your challenges:

"You retain all of your ownership rights, including but not limited to Copyright, in your User Submissions. However, by submitting the User Submissions to CGSociety Services, you expressly acknowledge and agree that you grant Ballistic Media worldwide, nonexclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Submissions in connection with the CGSociety, Ballistic Publishing and Ballistic Media (and its successor’s) business. The foregoing license granted by you terminates once you remove or delete a User Submission from the CGSociety Website."

Although I find the bold part abusive, it shoud be “terminated since the images are deleted”. But if removing the images is impossible… What can we do?

Firstly, not to make any assumptions, but unless your husband maintains a large digital art repository with millions of images, hundreds of thousands of users, and tens of millions of database records, I don’t see how he can claim to know how to resolve this issue.

Secondly, we haven’t been working on this for 15 days, we’ve had bigger issues to deal with recently so unfortunately your issue was a low priority one.

Your entries are gone. Thankyou for your patience.

If my opinion matters, the same easiness the artists can upload an image to your website, they should be able to delete it. I’m sorry if this takes to much time in your busy life and if it demands a great effort of you to do it, but it is IMPORTANT to me have all these images deleted.

These images are still online:

Could you please be kind enough to find some more minutes to delete them?

Thank you for your understanding.

With all due respect, it’s up to artists to fully read the small print of any challenge before submitting any of their work. We’re not forcing anyone to give us anything, and if artists are not comfortable the terms, which are clearly laid out for all to see, then they should refrain from participating.

#28

leigh

With all due respect, have you ever changed your mind on something?

I still believe the users should have the ability to remove an image as easy as they can add, after 4 years I do not believe the referred images portrait myself as an artist and all I want, to begin with, was to remove them.

#29

Well of course I changed my mind about things, I’m not disputing that. And I agree that artists should be able to remove their work easily.

But my point was more to do with your accusation that we “take away the rights” of artists. We’re not taking anything that isn’t being given to us, that’s my point. That’s why it’s very important for all artists to read the terms and be sure that they feel comfortable with them before submitting anything. Your post seems to imply some form of exploitation, which really isn’t the case, as we’re not forcing anyone to do anything they don’t want to do.

#30

I agree that no one is forced to upload their images, but when our rights to remove them by ourselves does not exist, when we need to post several messages in an open forum, begging please for someone “who has the power” to remove them several times, and nobody is willing to do this because everyone is too busy with more serious problems, I think and that is my opinion, you are taking my rights over my images away. I’m not happy with this situation and I feel humiliated for begging for this.

As I said before, in your submission terms is said “The foregoing license granted by you terminates once you remove or delete a User Submission from the CGSociety Website.”

All I want is to terminate this licence. But I would never expect how this would be so difficult!

Thank you for removing all the images.
