how to create reflection map while rendering using mental ray?



I’m trying to create a reflection map, I must use mental ray as the rendering engine.

I’ve attached a env sphere node with texture to the reflected color slider of my blinn shader. The reflection map works, however it’s still raytracing everything else in the scene. This defeats the purpose of using a reflection map to lower render times.

Is it possible to render using mental ray, use a reflection map but not have that material raytrace the rest of the scene?


Its a while since I used a blinn (why are you not using mia_material_x) but I think you can set the reflection limit to 0 in the raytrace options of the blinn material. (Or do it for everything in render settings).
