how to approach this?

I have been using Maya for a long time to make still images and have recently started using it to make animations with dynamics. I have a specific scene that I am not entirely sure how to approach. I am animating a rotating cylinder. Objects are planted onto the surfaces of the cylinder. I made a really rough mock up which you can see here:

After a few rotations of the cylinder I want the individual objects to fall off of the wheel after they pass the apex of the cylinder rotation. My initial thought is to make all the object nCloth objects and parent them to the rotating cylinder. After a few rotations the gravity/nucleus effects each individual object planted onto the rotating cylnder as they pass their apex. I realize this may be confusing but if by chance you understand what I am going for I would appreciate any suggestions.

You could do with Mash, the newest version support Bullet. (Maya 2018) I could mock up something from ya.

Mocking something up would be very generous of you. Even just telling me which Mash nodes would be applicable would be super useful. Whatever you would be willing to do.You have my gratitude in advance.
