how to: apply filters to multiple layers

#1

So I have a couple layers I am working with, and when I apply the offset filter, only one layer is affected.

So rather than applying the filter to each layer, I would like to apply it to all at the same time.

Grouping didn’t work, and I’m not a fan of flattening my layers at this point.

Any ideas?

Convert to smart object is one option. It’s a bit of a pain to work with the layers after they are combined into one object, but you can still do it. Just double click the icon in the Layer menu and you’ll get a pop-up warning and the ability to edit the contents as it doesn’t destroy the layers.

Oh my God! Those smart objects do have a purpose. Ok thanks, I will now be using smart objects for many things.

#4

…why don’t Photoshop have adjustment layers, just like After-Effects?! =/

#5

personally I don’t use smart objects, I prefer layer>apply image on a new layer. It just creates a flattened layer.

#6

Photoshop has adjustment layers. I do not know if they are just like After Effects.

Smart objects have tons of purposes, you just have not taken the time to discover them. I was never able to add a clipping layer to group of layers, use nondestructive editable effects, have cloned objects, etc., smart objects allows me to do that.

Adjustment layers in AE are empty layers where you put all the filters, color adjustments, etc in one place and it affects everything below.

but PS have adjustment layers too, that’s true…
