How to achieve such lighting effect

#1

Hello everybodey,
how to achieve such lighting effect:

notice how each brick has 2 flat colors, and in the shadow part it affected by very strong skylight.
also ther is tiny outlines, and soft shadow.

Main problem is shadow over toon shader.

Any ideas?

You should write about software You use.
Basically you can get this effect in 3ds max default Sacanline renderer.

  1. how each brick has 2 flat colors - Just set Ink&Paint shader
  2. shadow part it affected by very strong skylight - in Light options find shadow color and set it to blue.
  3. also ther is tiny outlines - You can also set it in Ink&Paint shader
  4. and soft shadow - Advanced Lighting and Light trace.

Off course it depends witch software are you using.

Right now I’m using 3ds max 2011 + VRay 2
but if it is better to use something else, I can give it a try

I alrady tryed this way
the problem with Ink&Paint is that it’s colors don’n affected by lighting and environment color.
notice how each brick on picture has 3 colors 1)light grey highlight 2)grey light 3)blue shadow

with Ink&Paint it is possible to make first 2 colors, but how to make blue shadow on brick itself

p.s. sorry my english

The soft shadow looks to me to be an AO pass with a high search distance setting. An AO pass will be ALOT faster than the light tracer.
