How should I make corrective shape take effect partially?

This is my first try for corrective shape, so I really don’t know the workflow here.

The problem is, when I give a blend shape, it will affect the whole character. For example, after I fixed knee bend, if I try to manipulate other part of body, it will not move, since the blendshape node overrides all deformation. How should I make the node affect only the knee area?

Should I cut the mesh into pieces?

Have the blendShape node below the skinCluster. SetDrive the blendShape from which range you want to trigger it on the knee rotation.

use the Pose Space Deformer PSD
its like a set driven key but much more advanced… it can take more than one iput… its vector cone based…
