How can this be done in A:M ?

How can this : http://lumumba.luc.ac.be/%7Etommertens/itrans/
be done in A:M ?

The best luck I have had so far is using an ambience decal underneath a color decal that has had its percentage adjusted to appear semi translucent.

Thanks !

A:M is great software, but I really wish it had some good SSS !

Maybe these will help:

I posted this same question over at the Hash forum, thinking I would get some feedback from the folks that never visit CGTalk, but apparently it was deleted before the first day was up.

I don’t get it. Is there something offensive about this post ?

( I even took out the last line where I said that A:M is good software, but I really wish it had good SSS )

( Maybe I just can’t find where it is posted ? )

Dearmad : Thanks for the post !
I’ve seen that one - that fellow is brilliant.
Do you know if this method can be used for skin ?
( I’ll have to check it out some more and do some testing )

Thanks !

Possibly it was the way the question appeared ‘loaded’. ie Are you after a particular look or are you after a particular process?

SSS is a title someone made up to implement a certain process that achieved a certain look. Can that same look be achieved by another process - yes (and the candle example link already provided is a great example I think) I guess we could call this SSS but then it may not conform to the process detailed in the paper you referred to to achieve the result so it can’t strickly speaking be called SSS!

So, if there are other ways to achieve the same result, what is the importance of implementing SSS? Perhaps a little like saying that because the ‘standard’ is to make models using polygons that all applications should implement polygons so 3D models can be made!

Note that this is NOT intended as a flame of any sort - just a different perspective on things.

Cheers

I’m sure SSS will be available for A:M soon enough.
