How can I solve these triangles? Please help.

#1

Please see the attached screenshot. I am adding details to my model and found myself unable to solve these triangles.

Q1: Please teach how to make the triangle to quads. Some simple draw will help me a lot.

Q2: I am still new to 3D (Im using Maya by the way) and wondering if there is any principles or some sort of universal techniques when it comes to situation like this?

Thank you guys.

This would make quads

If all you to do is simply remove the triangles then you can just split the triangle shaped quad in the middle, into two quads (by drawing an edge across the middle). However, it’s still not going to be the cleanest of methods.

In truth, unless you are really worried about polycount, on a mesh like that there’s probably no reason those vertical edges that are branching off to form the triangles can’t continue to loop vertically around the entire mesh, like the other edges.

Simplest way of doing it would be either adding the one edge as the others have suggested, or like this

Thanks IZZE. Brilliant! I will try it tonight.

Thanks coljwood. I tried continue to loop vertically around the entire mesh like other edges. But the problem that I found was when I smooth out the cylinder, the area that has the loop does not look as smooth as other area. I am not sure how to fix it.

Thanks Exbendable. Thank you for providing another solution. These kind of solution will help me a lot so that I can learn how to solve the problem next time.
