How about this for a new build?

I鈥檓 looking to build a new work station machine that will also be used for rendering still images. This is the build I鈥檝e come up with. It鈥檚 coming in at just over 拢3000 so I would very much appreciate some feedback on the setup before I spend the money,

Fractal Design Titanium Grey Computer Case
路 1000W Modular 80 Plus Gold Silent PSU
路 2 x Intel Xeon 6 Core, 2.4GHz,15MB Processors
路 2 x Corsair H80 Hydro Coolers
路 32GB Crucial DDR4, ECC Registered RAM
路 Asus Z10 Motherboard
路 Quadro K4200 Graphics Card
路 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Read 550MB/s, Write 520MB/s, 85000 IOPS NCQ
路 2TB 7200rpm 64MB Cache Hard Drive
路 DVD-RW Drive
路 Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

The k4200 is a waste of money unless you absolutely need something like HW stereo in Linux and so on. Get a GTX.
1000W PSU is likely overkill. A dual 2630 with a 4200 would probably work fine with a decent 600W :stuck_out_tongue: - 1000W remains overkill for anything short of a dual CPU dual SLI setup.
Dual h80 cooling for CPUs that can鈥檛 be OCed much might be a few wasted bucks, but nothing much. Do make sure they fit and that you have a case with decent placement for the radiators if you go that way.

Dual CPU is, for most people not great value for money, plenty threads about that. It might or might not be worth it for you, but usually a good i7 single CPU for work with a rendering mule around it is better bang for buck. Consider the options.
Single CPU, better clocked and more cored Xeons are also likely a better investment if you can afford Xeons.

Also don鈥檛 give the CPU specs, give the model if you want advice. There might be several 2.6 with 15M options for people to dig up.
Given the mobo I assume 2x E5-2630, they are decent value for money of all xeons, but it will be a much slower computer than an OCed 4930k in any task that doesn鈥檛 thread out decently (most of rendering if the engine doesn鈥檛 suck and a good chunk of dynamics) and generally slower than most wider and better clocked single CPU xeons.

All in all not a great build IMO, but if you really want a dual CPU and know the actual pros and cons of it then at least upgrade the videocard to a better option.

yeah don鈥檛 do dual CPU unless you鈥檙e literally going for top of the line CPU鈥檚

IMO the quadro 4200 is great for maya鈥檚 legacy viewport, but bad for everything else unless you can鈥檛 live without stereo 3d support for the viewport - which IMO is nice, but honestly anaglyph glasses show stereo in the viewport well enough anyway

OK thanks for the replies, think I鈥檓 definitely shying away from duel xeons now, the parts list above looks quite good actually and saves a small fortune so I may go with that.
