Began work on Alta. I’ve proportioned her using 3d.sk’s Aneta (you know who I’m talking about, you dirty boys). Retopologized using a zb-goz-modo (and back again) pipeline. I’m trying to isolate the bust so I can tear it off, detail the face independently, then reattach it with minimal fuss. We’ll see how it goes.

Good day.

I’m just going to roll this thread back for a second and lay down the foundation for the challenge.

Jojo and I have teamed up to present you a 3d replica of the Forbidden Planet movie Poster.

Jojo will be modeling Robby the Robot and I will be modeling Altaira Morbius, or Alta. We haven’t decided who exactly will be modeling the props in the background (DR. Morbius’ house, planets, environment, etc) but we’ll sort that out later.

Jojo has begun work on Robby and will be posting his wires soon.

I have been working the base mesh for Alta and have begun work on the mid level details.

Latest update on Alta: Working on face and general forms before committing to detail. Dress was done quickly and it shows. Will re-extract a mesh out of Modo and spend a bit more time reworking the mesh before sending it out to zb for sculpting.

a good start, I think you could go down in subdivs and work on the proportions more loosely :slight_smile: Also the corners of her mouth feel really forced downwards, rather unnaturally. Keep going :wip:

Yeah I looked everywhere, but couldn’t find the poster for Close Encounters of The Forbidden Planet. :smiley:

Thanks for the crits Magda. She doesn’t look so much like an alien or a frog anymore haha. Sometimes you just need to walk away and come back for it all to come into perspective.

Joel that is so true, sometimes its a whole new experience to walk away and come back to something your working on. And also having someone give a hint can do wonders :slight_smile: I look forward to see your newly upgraded work.

Thanks to feedback from jojo, Magda, my gf, and a couple friends I’ve changed a lot of the proportions, forms, and gesture. I also redid the dress and it fits her much better now.

More work on Alta. I still want to define the arms a little bit more…some final details in the face. Then will be posing her and moving on to the finer details and sculpting the hair.

In proportion your eyes are too big.

To eye and mouth have to make a triangle

for the next image the topology is wrong but the proportion are good:

I probably wouldn’t even call the proportions correct in that example, I’d post a better one but I’m on my iPad

I was thinking that the Girl of the Poster looks like Nicole Kidman, perhaps you could find some photos of she as reference to tweak the face and body. I like your team!

Thanks for the crit scote. Robbi’s right the proportions on that mesh are a little off but it still serves its purpose perfectly and you are right now that you mention it the eyes are too big. I will change them tonight. They were a bit of a problem area for me so I hadn’t been working them very much. A nudge in the right direction was just perfect.

Coming! I got the robby mesh from Jojo and have been posing Alta, but nothing worth a wip update yet. Mother’s day was a busy weekend so no work was done on my part :slight_smile:

Onto more detailing now…fixing the bulges and all that fun stuff.
