HMC #30: Classic Move Poster : Paths of Glory

#1

Hello everyone,
I’m a long-time lurker of this subforum but never had the time nor the skill (IMHO) to enter one of these challenges. Even if I’m still lacking in both, I decided to join this one. I’ll put myself to the test with Stanley Kubrick’s Paths of Glory, starring Kirk Douglas.

Thanks for the welcome and the encouraging words!
I’m posting two reference images (I have many more and there are a lot of them around the 'net):

And here’s how the head of Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas) is coming out:

Along with a couple of wireframes:

Sadly, my good old 'puter went down , so until I repair it or get a new one, I won’t be able to sculpt, but I can still advance with base meshes. I’ll be using Blender, ideally for both basemeshes and sculpting, or a mixture of Blender and ZBrush.

(By the way, what’s the policy for picture attaching in this forum? I’ve seen most people links to external pictures, is that preferred over attaching?)

Attachment picture are limited to Cgtalk members. visitors can’t see them.

And attachment are not so cool to look in a post… Thumbnail with no size.

Good topology by the way. maybe the form of the head is weird.

Smallish update, had almost no time and no computer to keep going, but nevertheless…
Made some adjustements to Kirk Douglas’ head:

And after that, I made a quick mesh and basic rig to help me get the pose as right as possible, the idea is to obtain a correct pose and then start tweaking the base mesh before starting to sculpt:
