didn’t know him but wow his shading is awesome
HMC#28: Comic Book Master Tribute - Lee Bermejo
well i’ve been doing some looking around and i think i’ve got some candidates…

edit: are those first 2 pics not working for everyone else? They worked when I first posted but don’t seem to be now…I’ll have to fix it in the morning when I’m not on my iPod…lol…they were of wolverine and batman
alrighty pics are redone…they should be visible now…
i’m kinda leaning towards the wolverine at the moment…the veins on the arms has me interested…lol
I am not familiar with the artist but the works you have shown are pretty sweet and I 2nd the last pic
well for now i’ve decided to go with the wolverine one…simply cos i’ll only be working on this on the weekends and i think i’ve got the best chance of finishing that one…
here’s my first bit of sculpting…just starting to rough in muscles and such

this is the first time i’ve used Zbrush since 4 came out…i feel all wonky like i’m out of practice…lol…
i was originally going to sculpt it ‘in pose’ but decided to just sculpt him in a neutral pose initially and then once everything is roughly in place, then pose and continue sculpting…
was bored so i tried doing a little pose test…still getting used to the transpose stuff, never really used it all that much before…
- hands obviously aren’t posed yet since it’s just a test
- i think i bent the legs too far up…
- i just about got the arms into the right position though i think…

once i have the basic sculpting done and i’ve posed it, i might take it into max and retopo + split it into smaller chunks so i can get a higher res for the final model…
Just some things I am noticing right away is his upper arms are to small. If you look at your ref picture his elbows are pretty much at his hips yours are closer to his pecs. The shoulders area looks a off a bit as well. I know its early so a lot will change but trying to help you catch it early.
I was hoping you would have chosen the Joker pic. It has so much personality. Wolverine is cool as well. Good luck and I am excited to see your progress!
Bring the elbows down to his hips and arch his back a little bit as well.
@cbeese: you’re right but since it was only a test those things will be fixed for the final pose
@dAnconia: if i was going to have more time i would have picked the joker one…but i’m only going to have weekends to work on this so wolvie seemed the easier of the bunch to do…
here’s a bit of an update, I’ve roughed all the anatomy in (haven’t touched the head or hands yet though), i didn’t focus so much on the legs as they’ll be covered anyway…

finally getting back to this tomorrow…will work on his head for sure so that he doesn’t look like some tiny headed old man on steroids…
update time
first pass at the face, obviously won’t fully look the part till there’s some hair on there but i think its getting there…might need to look angrier though…

just realised i didn’t do the ears either…
EDIT: did a very quick paintover of the head with some hair

worked on the hair some

i’m not sure about the placement of the teeth, i’ve tried moving them up and down but can’t seem to find the right spot for the angry look
Looking good so far!
His anatomy needs some more work though, I’d say. For example, the lats don’t flow all the way from the outside straight to the inside of the spinal extensor as you currently have them, but attach diagonally across the back at their lower end (see here). Breaking the delts up into 3 heads might help you in getting the shapes right. Don’t think so much of the lines/shapes muscles create but more in terms of attachment points. The lines will practically take care of themselves if you do that.
Cheers!
thanks felix, i thought the lats were a bit off…lol…and now i look at them they look quite wierd…so i’ll fix that for sure…
will also split the deltoids into the 3 heads, it was something i was planning on doing anyways
this weekend i might try and tighten up the anatomy in a few places (as above) and also give the poor bugger some clothes…
well i’ve put some base meshes in for the clothes and roughed them in…

i think i might take a stab at posing it now before i sculpt it any further…
oh and the tummy roll is in there for after its posed…currently it looks like wolvie’s a bit out of shape…lol…
