HMC 24 - Weta Workshop - MNU Orc Soldier

#3

hehe, this should be fun to watch and follow, best of luck to you

#4

Thanks guys,

i’ve been busy doing basic sculpting for the body, but it looks so bad i don’t wanna show it.
Gotta work 2 nights so i’ll be back by the weekend.

If i can get the character finished in time i’ll be able to even model an MNU vehicle.

I got so much learning to do in basic sculpting skills.
But i haven’t given up … yet!

#5

concept sounds great…looking forward to seeeing some pics

#6

Alright,
got an ugly thing to show at last.

1: I’m not good at sculpting!
2: It’s still a very rough - need to make the head look like one of the orcs from lotr.
3: haven’t worked on the hands and feet at all
4: After this first likeness pass, i’ll try and sculpt out the body’s underlying muscles and bones.
5: I’ll be doing an animation friendly low-res afterwards.

So, time to keep on working on the basic shape and feel. The head will be really challenging.

#7

I’m gonna put a retarted orc inside a MNU combat suit from project 9 and a lack of fashion sence.
I hope this will be one huge laugh.

I’m sure of that  Looking good, have fun.

Cheerio~

#8

Thanks Menthol,

so fat it hasn’t been a laugh with zbrush hanging on me too often. I just screened this version and it did it again. Should have saved before doing that. Now gotta redo some changes and the lower legs and feet.

This modeling is rather exagerated, cause it’s just to get some rough shape in there. Will tone it down and make it a more worn-out-wrincled-skin like the head. You won’t see much of the body anyway, but it’s just practice for now.

#9

So,

i got around and starting the suit. Not easy cause many prolems with the design.
I modeled most parts flat so i can bend them afterwards and they keep nicely together.
Everything is modeled for sub-d’s so i can smooth it at rendertime.

cheers

#10

nice work on the head
which reference image you’ve used? the armor looks like a sci-fi armor a bit…

#11

It is futuristic. It’s a mix between an orc from lord of the rings, and a merc battle suit from district 9. Here is the image of the suit!

I’m trying to make it a funny entry. I hope

#12

yep, i see now
especially i don’t like mixing styles, but lets see in the end…

it will be cool if he wear a sunglasses and a cap like on that image, but he wear the cap reverse (the cap’s front will be at back), and Christopher’s dead head on his belt, or hold in his hand and look into Chris’s dead eyes with a satisfied face, like this
or something like this…

#13

good idea.

But doing that head too will be a bit too much work i think.
My idea was maybe to make him look kind of silly, and looking straight into the barrel of the machine gun while holding the trigger.

Kind of a curiosity that’s gonna get 'm killed.

but we’ll see.

#14

Nice concept , keep it up

#15

thanks Alekzsander!

Little update:

The suit is starting to get shape. And soon i’ll be able to start on the little details.
Now that’s when it’s gonna be fun.

At rendertime this model has about more than 460.000 poly’s. Every single object is almost purely quad and smoothable. Only the rivets have 8 tri’s comming together.

i so much hope i have time to pose the character AND do a NMU vehicle.
Let’s get busy.

#16

So,
no manu responses, so i’ll keep the description short:

update!

#17

haha. very cool. Looking good so far. Can’t crit much at this point. Will you take it through zbrush or mudbox for final sculpting?

#18

“this is great”

nice work, very good topology

the fun start now :bounce:

#19

thanks peeps,

the head, arms and legs will go back into zbrush for sure.
And some parts that need wrincles. Maybe i’ll even import
the other stuff to provide some scratches and stuff.

we’ll see

#20

Looks really good so far.
And nice idea.

#21

Thanks PKT!

Another update. I should be almost ready on the suit. I still need to retopo the hands. I’ll do more orcish clothes for at the arms and legs. Then it’s up to zbrush again.

Maybe i’ll start out the car too. I’m so loving this way of modeling. It’s rather new to me.

view the image in another window for max resolution !!

Looks very clean, great work. This is really happening  Would love to see it in colors/dirt as well.

Cheers pal.
