Cool Start !!!

Great looking basemesh man, keep up the good work! Are you going to do his fur after the fact as well?

#5

sweet start - dont’ wanna be picky but could you use image embedding - I don’t know about everyone else [maybe I’m a freak here lol] but I usually can’t be bothered to click on links to open images - instantly not interested in seeing more than one and we don’t want that here 'cause it’s gearing up to be a good model  Keep 'em coming :wip:

#6

Thanks for all the comments
I’m not quite sure what to do about the hair actually,
these are my two references…one with hair and one without

I’m leaning towards sculpting the bald one mostly because I have no idea how to do a good job with the hair o_O

but either way, I’ve been ultra-busy with school work this week, so I probably won’t have an update till friday or so

#7

Hey you are Blender user too :P.
Good luck

#8

Hey pal,

Must be a great experience to model the kong and it’s looking good so far. I say the hairy one looks a bit more badass.

off topic- here is a 3d kong reference

Cheerio.

#9

ok, well maybe one update

this is harder than I thought o_O
ape noses are weird…

#10

Your monkey looks very well

#11

woohoo! update

#12

Looking badass! I love the level of detail on this one.

#13

Damn Jeepster - you’re rocking Blender 2.5 there!

Looking great. I still cant seem to get my head around sculpting in 2.5. For some reason the performance I get sculpting in 2.5 is really variable. It particularly seems to do poorly when I import a multires mesh from 2.49.

Anyway your sculpt is looking really gorilla-ish. My only crit ATM is perhaps that the lips seem to lack a little body. Here’s a bit of ref.

Edit: Also, thats a really nice looking GLSL shader.

#14

thanks guys!

yeah I’ve been having some problems with older sculpts in 2.5 too…not sure what’s up with that
but thanks for the crit! i’ll be sure to try and fix that lip up, and maybe work with the nose a little bit more

i guess the next thing to do after that is posing the mouth like my ref

#15

Hey pal, looking great. I really liked the wrinkles. Might be highlight/shadow thing but clavicle too visible for the Kong. And sterno muscles attach weirdly to it. Well, again it might be WIP so just ignore my message

Cheerio~

#16

thanks for pointing that out, I definitely need to rework the neck and shoulders area

#17

really interesting to see what blender is able to do.

but also what you are able to do with it.

is that last pix some kind of normal map on the model in de viewport ?

looking really great

#18

i’ve been extremely busy with school lately :frowning: this is the first spec of free time i’ve had in a long time

Nothingness, thanks
yeah i used a zbrush matcap image and mapped it to the normals of the mesh

and what kind of monster is complete without a fancy hat?

haha
but yeah, i think i’m pretty much done
tried to match the facial pose from my reference, but it looked retarded, so i’ll stick with what i have

#19

the hat is hilarious! the model is fantastic, very nice work jeepster

#20

Hi
great sculpt…and… very funny hat

cheers

#21

i think the hat makes him look very dignified. really cool sculpt dude and you gotta keep the hat for your final haha

#22

You are busy I know, whenever you find time, neck still need some love, other than that, looks great pal

Cheerio~
