HMC 24 - Weta Workshop Challenge - Goblin

#1

Just watched through the extra material on LOTR.
This was one of the illustrations done at Weta Workshop when trying to get the feel of the Goblins in Moria.

Wish me luck, this one is going to be hard, hehe.

#2

looks a nice concept :).
Good luck .

#3

Thank you

Did some very fast front and side sketches in photoshop, then started on the basemesh:

#4

Just finnished the basemesh for the head.

I haven’t had as much Zbrush experience as I would have liked, so I hope this challenge will give me some. It will make the guy look alot better I hope.
A bit to smooth for a goblin, hehe.

#5

I forgot to post the side and front view of the head.

And I couldn’t help myself… I had to try an sculpt a little on the base.
Did some DOF and color corrections in photoshop :stuck_out_tongue:

#6

I roughly rigged the guy, and posed him up.
Going to start sculpting today I think, and maybe start on some armor peices.

#7

looking good your draw and model

#8

Thank you Alekzsander.

#9

Yeah, definitely looks hard to model  But it’s a challenge after all. Have fun pal. Looking forward to see what you come up with after sculpting.

Cheerio~

#10

Thanks menthena  Yeah, I’ll just have to do my best I guess.

I made a fast shield and spear. Think I will remake them, didn’t turn out as good as I hoped. But they help show how it will sort of look like in the end.

And I got time for some sculpting today!

#11

Made a front and side view of the helmet for modelling:

#12

Started to model the helmet, it was harder then I had imagined

#13

i really like the design you chose its turning out well so far.

how do you think you will handle the material thats not metal do you think you’ll go with more like wood, or leather or some other kind of surface?

#14

Thanks for commenting SPIDER2544
I will not be texturing this model, so I’m not sure it will be visable on the model what material it’s suppose to be.

#15

I know that it won’t show up but he looks way too skinny, might cause the armor look weird too. And you started to pose too early as well. You might wanna match the model to a regular human for proportions.

Have fun pal

#16

menthol: I agree, he is very skinny, but I chose to make him like that. I think he must be this thin to fit into that armor. Just my oppinion of a goblin though.

Yeah… I was afraid I did the posing a bit too early, but rigging and posing are not my strongest skills. So I felt (to make the best out of it as I could) I schould just pose him, and model the armour around him, instead of modeling it on a t-posed character.

Thanks alot for the the advice though, I will think about all this on my next project, just a bit afraid I have gotten a bit too far to change now x_x.
