HMC 24 - Weta Workshop Challenge - Dr Grordbort's Rayguns (again)

#6

thats a very nice model you got there, the mesh is nice and clean and the overall proportions are sweet. Keep up the good work

#7

thanks aovesen

a litle more from today, 14 hours in total so far

#8

great model so far.
Never heard of these before. Looks great non the less.

Are you gonna do gravures in zbrush or something? Displacement is accepted for this challenge.
Would be great.

#9

Thanks Nothingness,

You’ll have to help me a little bit, my French is terrible…by gravures do you mean the texturing ?

I’m happy with the model the way it is at the moment. The only thing i think left to do is the plaque on the handle. I was thinking about displacement, but i might try having a go at modelling it. I have used a little disp map for the badge on the “wing” on the top of the gun, but my displacement settings are a bit off, so it looks a bit rubbish.

#10

yeah, by gravure, i mean like the badge you added last. I think the one on the lower parts will be fun. Car the share how you’re doing these badges?

cheers

#11

Sorry Nothingness, i’d forgotten you’d posted in here.

The badge on the wing was done with a displacment map. i’ll post up the image once i go back to work next week (had this week off, hence the lack of progress). i’ll try to keep a decent progression of the badge on the handle for you, once i’ve started it, Nothingness

I have managed a little bit this week on the other gun. I’m a bit less productive when i’m at home (in the interests of marital bliss)

#12

Nice and smooth mesh, I can’t anything wrong with it. Looks really good!

Btw, if anyone is going to look like a fool, it’s me :stuck_out_tongue:

#13

Thanks PKT

we can have our own little mini competition

#14

Lovely work! Keep it up.

#15

Good work.

Only think i could add for when it’s finished: It looks too clean. So it’s obviously CG. I hope you can fix this in the end my messing it a little up.

Cheers

#16

thanks!

thanks Nothingness, i may add a few bumps and scrapes at the end. concentrating on getting the models done first

so back to work this week and i spent almost a day doing and redoing and then almost giving up on that badge on the handle of the first one. So for the moment i’m shelving it to be a little more productive on a third one…

hopefully i can figure something for the badge while i’m working on this one

#17

I don’t usually like weapons, but these guns are beautiful. Lovely execution.

#18

Thank you very much Joe.

got some more done today. started on a lot of the smaller details, should be finished at the end of my next session crosses fingers

still didn’t have any luck with the badge for the first one, might try again tomorrow

#19

Great model and very clean. Is that some sort of cel shader material on the more recent images? It’s pretty sweet.

#20

looks great dude just gotta add in all the wiring and brackets and you’ll be all set

#21

sorry it’s taken a while to reply. finally had some real work to do, so these had to go on the back burner for a bit. should be able to pick it back up tomorrow

benneboy: No cel shader. I’ll take a screen shot of it if i can later on. Just a simple grey blinn, with a slight specular and no gloss. lighting is one MR area spot and one sunlight. the “halo” or outline around the model was done post in Photoshop, alpha selection and feather

@spider: yep thanks man. i might try and squeeze one more in before the end to make 4 altogether, i’ve really enjoyed this challenge…i might even enter another one

#22

so i managed to sneak a few hours in over the last days at home over the last few days…

Cheers!
