HMC #21: QOTR - The Pirate airfleet

Thx all, here’s more updates to the transport seaplane.

Big “anti-ship” gun:

Engines, the outermost engine is a primitive type of jet engine called Motorjet

Here’s the latest concept for the combat autogyro:

Sullendawn: I’ve already deviated from the original art. In the original, the zeppelin have a flat top and the flight deck is on top of that.
To me that looks top heavy, so I decided to add to smaller ‘blimps’ at the top sides to add stability. And then build the flight deck on top.
If you are interested on real life Zeppelin carriers you should google for USS Akron and USS Macon.

Hey there!

I think you need to watch out with what you’re currently doing with the helicopter thing

You’ll need to have a stabilizing rotor. Could be in the form of a standard helicopter rotor, or a counterclockwise rotor in top of the helicopter (don’t know for sure about the last one…)

Cheers!

#8

gamert, there is no need to have a stabilizing rotor 'cause it’s not a helicopter. It is an autogyro
Here top blades act like a wing and the back rotor just pushes autogyro forward.
Here is working example:

Hope you’ve understood. And sorry for bad English.

PunkT34 is right, autogyros don’t need secundary rotors.

Started modelling the autogyro:

Some work on the autogyro engine:

whohohoh…i love that engine! I was going to make start the wings engine for my concept and whoa this is inspirational. Love your thread. Keep it up :D:applause:

#12

Cool idea you have going! How many vehicles will you be making total?

#13

I’m glad you liked it razeverius, take a look to that first link on my previous post, lots of great reference pictures in there.

Japetus: I’m focusing on finish these 3 models first, if I have some spare time I’ll like to make a jetpack too.

The autogyro is almos finished, the only things left to model being the cockpit interior, and some details on the fuselage.

#14

Wow, cool details! Waitng for final composition!

#15

Great airships and vehicles. I love the details of the engines and metal ribbing. Great stuff so far, can’t wait to see you add textures.

#16

The details on the gyro look great. I used to build little paper models using this engine design so it brings back memories.

#17

Thanks all for the nice comments

After a lot of searching I found this great building article of a model of the Japanese carrier Soryu

Based on that, I added some detail to the Airship.

The cream colored section will be textured as wood.

#18

Oh yeah, that’s going to look sweet. The bridge has a great old feel to it. Any way to show a full shot or is it ready for that yet?

#19

whew i love what you’re doing :applause:

Didn’t make much advance this last week, mostly playing with the materials.

Here’s a full render of the airship Wyat, not much new here:

And the only details I added since my last post:

I’m sort of stuck with the transport, don’t know what more details to add.
But here’s the last renders, in the first you can see the windowed room where the pirate captain meets with his (or hers) high rank henchmen to plot the next devious plan.

And the almost finished autogyro, the pirate ace personal mount (please don’t mind the lame attempt at a scrached paint texture)

(edit: I see the JPEG compression did a really bad job on the autogyro pictures…)

Hi there!

Since finally nobody is working in some retro-robot, I started doing one myself, and it will incorporate the idea I have for a jetpack.

I don’t have any concept art for this, besides the idea of having vacuum tubes protruding from the robot’s head, shock absorbers on the lower legs (not yet modelled), the left hand will be a tipical claw like on toy robots while the right hand will be more articulated, and put a gyroscope somewhere (maybe in the abdomen). And it will be holding a machine gun similar to this german one:

And here’s the progress so far:

#22

Some advance, hands finished and some work done on the hip area

Also, last saturday I found this great image by DeviantArt user Giacobino (wish I had found it earlier… great source of inspiration nontheless) :

#23

really great…
…both of you

#24

luking nice !!
keep it up …

#25

Thanks Punk and Sanket!

Well, the robot is finished, only a few details left like some gauges and more stuff on it’s head.
Right now it looks more like a comic relief character than a menacing pirate robot :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope that change at least a little with the jetpack and the machine gun.
