HMC#20: Expressions - Young Bale

#61

As ever thanks so much for the feedback. Regarding the fear/disgust thing, I really appreciate the comments on that, but I’m going to give it some attention tomorrow evening to try and sneak some more fear in there. Feels a bit like cheating just to rename it

Progress has been slow, but I’ve got a few more expressions here:

Pleasure

Worried

Surprised/shocked

With the last 2, I couldn’t really find ref that was too close, so I moved away from the reference a bit. Final one for today, which I’d secretly been looking forward to sculpting…

Silly

More to follow tomorrow, I hope…

#62

you’re really doing excellent work on this one! - though the Zoolander one cracked me up - totally not in his - as the pythons would have put it - idiom

#63

Chris, the Zoolander look…is GOLD!!! ahahaaa

He just needs the headband!!

excellent expressions you are doing, you captured the whole “Bale vibe”

#64

As I scrolled down this page, Blue Steel froze me in my tracks! It’s Priceless!!

#65

great! very cool!

#66

Cheers for the comments  Bit dissapointed by the “blue steel” comments. That was supposed to be “Magnum” with a playful and daring touch of “Le Tigre”. I’ll keep working on it.

tyrone - Yea I’m not sure I’ll be able to fight the temptation to put a head band on before the end of the competition…

Just one more today -

Happy

Went for a slightly less extreme reference than the one I posted a couple of pages back. Stuck with the looking up thing, not sure why, doesn’t have anything to do with happyness as such, but I like it.

Also reworked fear. This one has been the hardest one of the challenge for me, I’d really appreciate any feedback on it, especially if it’s still not hitting the right chords.

#67

Looking great. The reworked scared expression look better. The first looked more like disgust. Also a nice angle for that expression.

#68

Chris, looking amazing as usual

The only thing that doesn’t work for me is the separate strand of hair across his forehead, it sort of “pops”

You totally nailed “Happy” and “Fear”

I showed my lil cousin and she said “AWWW HES SO CUTE!!” and she actually recognized him too so yeah i would take that as a giant compliment as we all know how 9 year olds can be :stuck_out_tongue:

#69

I think you have the expression of fear at its highest point, in a situation between panic and stress, therefore fits well.
cheers.

#70

ur work is pure inspirational.

HMC-20 Expressions- GORILLA

#71

Thanks for replying in my thread. I stop in here often. I love the emotion your pieces have. Can’t say which I love most. I just appreciate them all

That finish line is way too close for comfort! haha.

Best of luck for the next week.

#72

Thanks for the replies

tyrone - Took a look at that hair, think you’re right, so I’ve got rid of it. Good spot  And yea that is a great compliment from your cousin, thanks for passing that on. Buy her a cookie from me would you

Latest sculpts -

Tired

Obviously had to move away from the reference image a bit for that one. I yawned a LOT while I was doing it…

Anger

I’ve risen above the urge to make another Christian Bale rant joke. For now.

#73

More expressions. Expressions. Expressions. I’ve started rocking slowly backwards and forwards as I sculpt them. Expressions.

Attentive (Concentration)

Disgust

No photo reference for that one, but I used my original fear as a base, since a lot of you saw that as disgust.

Tyrone - I mentioned before I took that extra hair strand out, to help the sculpture. Now I think I’ll use it to strangle whoever thought 15 was a good number of expressions to do. So a double whammy

Expressions. Expressions…

#74

Haha. Disgust is fantastic.

#75

This has been really great to see your work! keep it up! I love these…

#76

great works!!
love all the expressions,
only crit would be on Attentive , tongue seems somewhat unnatural to me.

#77

I agree with Omnilight. I can see what you were going for, but unfortunately on this one I don’t think you’re pulling it off. Besides that, though, the expression is superb, as are the other updates since I last visited. The quality of this thread is purely inspirational. Great job.

#78

Your thread is definitely one of my favourites.

#79

Yeah… This is a great thread. You are doing great! Some of these expressions are just brilliant. Some really nice work. Looking forward to seeing more!

Awesome-o work Chris

Disgust is nailed!

Attentive (Concentration) feels like it just needs his lower lip tweaked as it currently has a diagonal crease making it appear that it is doubling up on itself

Keep powering through
