My friend this courageous kick ass!
I like a lot your shader keep going ![]()
polymaster: Thanks!
Rofideo: Thanks! I will indeed keep going.
Here are 3 more renders. I’ll post bigger for my final but I just want to get them all up for now. Keep my enthusiasm going.

Those renders are great Tim. Actually the smaller images makes it a lot easier to see the model as a whole. Great job!!
-Rage
uinku: Yeah, it’s a bit much. I think I’ll keep a reddish hue but I’m gonna tone it down. Or maybe just put glowing skulls and flames in the pupil. We’ll see
RageOfAges: Thank you very much! I agree, I realized the big WIPs I was posting were sometimes hard to really see as a whole. It’s coming together much better when the images are a little smaller.
Anyway, here are 2 more (still big cause I didn’t feel like shrinking). I’m done 15 now but don’t have screen caps of them all. Gotta save some surprise renders for the final submission which I hope will be tomorrow.
Worried

and Happy

Great work so far. Sad and Shocked look great! And they look much better with the iris/pupils visible. Rage would work great with a little more 'umph. Something between what you have and this ![]()
Congrats on getting all 15 done. They all work very well, although sad is my favourite. I agree with d8D about the “rage” one, there’s nothing quite as scary as a pissed off monkey, so you don’t want to miss the opportunity for a very powerful expression. I think just pulling the lips back to bare the teeth more should do it.
Look forward to your final entry
d8D: Haha, I like that reference. I like the idea of pushing it a little bit more over the top. I’ll see what I can do.
Lord McGoat: Thanks, and yeah, there is nothing scarier. I just went to see some of these guys and yeah, they get pretty intense. They’re small but they don’t mess around when they’re not happy.
Well, I’m at work but wish I wasn’t. I want to wrap this up. Hopefully I’ll post a bit more or my final tonight. Depends on if I want to go a bit over the top with some of my final expressions.
Woohooooo! I finished my first HMC. Thanks everyone who gave me crit or support. This has really been a great time. I hope I can make the next one!
No more WIPs here, check the final submission page if you want to see the rest:
Congrats Tim. I know exactly how you feel about completing the Challenge. Last challenge was my first completed and it felt awesome. Those renders look really expressive!
-Rage
I like the final result, nice expressions in an interesting subject. And congratulations for finishing the challenge;) .
Cheers.
uinku: Again, Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the renders. I spent some time on the eyes so I’m glad you think they made a difference.
RageOfAges: Yeah, it’s a good feeling to finish something, especially when you run out of steam midway through and don’t expect to. Just saw you entered the Secret Agent contest. Gonna have to follow you on there. I’m still not sure if I’m gonna enter. I’ve got some other projects on my plate that involve money and signatures. I think I should have some extra time though. We’ll see.
Polymaster: Mucho gracias senior! I hope you can finish your gorilla. And if not, great job anyway, it’s a fantastic looking model that you now have in your portfolio.
JMART: Thank you much. Glad you find it interresting. It was kind of a weird challenge for me cause I decided to go with human emotions on a monkey face. It’s funny cause I showed excited and happy to one of the researchers I know at NIH’s animal research facility and she immediately said, “oh that’s a mad monkey, she’s upset.” So it was interresting because, while human emotions and expressions tend to be the same, animals still have such a completely different way of expressing how they feel. I opted to not go with the proper expressions as a rhesus would make the faces just cause that wouldn’t translate well to this project.
I’d love to. I just joined ACM, and just got my ticket to this years Siggraph. I keep forgetting to check the google group. Looks like there is another meeting on the 30th though? I’d love to come to the next one.
Hey TiMrozek,
a bit late maybe but I just saw your work and I like it very much, so, great job and
congrats with finishing
One question though, I read through this whole thread but I’m still unsure if you used mudbox or maya for the posing.
I noticed you fixed the little issue with the eyelid, kudo’s to you, so I take you transfered the normal-/ displacementmap to Maya and did the posing, am I correct?
I’m kind of analizing the different workflows myself and am still unsure if I’m going Zbrush or Mudbox…
Thx!
Hey Zumander, Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. I used mudbox for the posing actually. Soft moves and transforms are very easy to accomplish in these sculpting programs. As for which you should buy, I would say just download both of the trials and see what you feel most comfortable with. Both can do some really great stuff. I actually recently purchased Zbrush for myself and I use mudbox on my work machine. Personally I’ve found Zbrush to be better for concepting and general sculpting. Regardless, I think this is one of those debates that won’t end because there are people that love both so I think just trying out the demos and seeing which you feel most comfortable with is the way to go. Zbrush takes some getting used to over mudbox just because mudbox uses maya camera controls but it’s worth getting used to in my opinion. Anyway, thanks again, good luck making your decision, feel free to PM me if you have more questions.
Thanks man!
Greatly appreciated
I first bought myself a wacom intuos 3 a4 a week ago and now I’m getting the hang of it.
If I have further questions I will let you know.
Keep up your good work!
Cheers
